I am beyond excited to say that I was chosen to be a Blogger Bash 2016 Ambassador! Remember when I shared a little bit about my NYC trip last year? I went there for Blogger Bash 2015 and it was a really amazing experience.

Blogger Bash 2015 on

Not only did I get to go to NYC with my blogger bestie and go to The Tonight Show, I got to go to this amazing blog conference where I learned a lot about working with brands, making a difference in the world, and connecting with companies who were excited about working with me.  [Read more…]

Packing for a Conference Tips

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Faultless/Bon Ami Company   . All opinions are 100% mine.

I have a big trip coming up this month! I am going to NYC to go to a blog conference! I love going to blog conferences, but I am extra excited this time because it is in New York City with my best friend! Could it get any better than that? I don’t think so!

I know there are a lot of different kinds of conferences out there, but I think a lot of the rules to packing for a conference are basically the same no matter what type of conference you are going to. I have gone to enough conferences now, that I have my packing down to a bit of a science. I have friends who haven’t ever been to conferences and they ask me what types of things they should bring with them. A lot of people who haven’t ever been to a conference are probably thinking the same thing, so here are my tips for packing to go to a conference!

Conference Packing Checklist

I pack different things depending on what conference I am attending, but there are a few things that I make sure to ALWAYS pack! First is [Read more…]

Five Senses Friday Episode 16

This is a special edition of Five Senses Friday. Sadie and I filmed this while we were at Alt Summit. We were both lucky enough to win tickets to Alt Summit and got to go on a last minute girls’ trip. It was fun to be able to take some time to get away and to spend late nights giggling with my roommates.

I roomed with literally the best roommates I could have ever wanted at Alt Summit… Tiffany and Jenna. It was amazing! It came together so last minute, it was hard to know if things would go smoothly or not! It was SO fun. We spent our nights talking about our families, our blogs, and celebrity crushes. We giggled like we were 12 year olds and explored the halls of The Grand America at 2 am. I couldn’t have asked for a more fun Alt Summit roommate experience.

It was a bummer that Sadie couldn’t room with me, but the great thing about Sadie, is that it doesn’t matter if we aren’t together all of the time. We know exactly where we stand with each other and know that we love each other unconditionally. She is my sister. Although we don’t have the same genetic blood, she has become my sister.

Although we didn’t end up doing much together during the conference (partly because I took advantage of socializing and working on some fun collaborations during a few classes), we were able to go on a midnight pizza run with our roommates that ended with us sharing the front seat of a car, having Sadie try to lean her head on my head, my head then falling off of the headrest, and then us laughing hysterically for the rest of the way to our hotel. It wasn’t that funny, but at the time there was nothing funnier that had ever happen to us in our entire lives. The rest of the girls in the car thought we were TOTAL freaks. They may have been a little right.

As for the rest of Alt, it was such a good experience! I went to Alt Summit in January and it just wasn’t as fun and friendly as this one was. I felt like people were more willing to go out of their comfort zones to meet people and there was less attention to what designer you were wearing. I loved that I didn’t have to worry so much about how I looked and that I could just enjoy my time with friends while learning about things that I love.

My favorite class was taught by Alex and Rachel. They taught about Pinterest and it was literally life changing for me! I have gone to several Pinterest classes and none of them were as informative and fabulous as this one. That alone was totally worth my trip. Thank you Alex and Rachel for blowing my mind hole on all things Pinterest.

Anyways… Alt was the bomb. That is pretty much all I had to say. I am so grateful for the opportunity I had to go learn so much and be able to spend time making new friends and creating memories with old friends.

I am really grateful for the time I was able to spend with Sadie Jane too. As soon as I walked in my door after Alt Summit, I found out that my husband got a new job and we will be MOVING! Right now, I live about 15 minutes away from Sadie, but I will be more like 3 hours away once my house sells. I am really excited about this new chapter in my life, but so sad to think about leaving my family and my dear friends. Thankfully, like I said before, a sisterhood doesn’t need to be made up of people who live close to each other or see each other all of the time. We will survive this move!

Now I will get off my soapbox so you can enjoy episode 16 of FIVE SENSES FRIDAY!

Snap Conference 2014 Recap and Video

Guys. I am literally dying. Okay, not literally. BUT… I am tired! I haven’t slept in days. But not the “I am stressed out of my mind” kind of not sleeping in days. This is different. This feeling is more like a “I am too old to stay up all night giggling like I am 12 years old again” kind of not sleeping. This feeling only happens one time of year and can only mean one thing. Snap Conference!

There is nothing quite like learning until your head is about to explode while simultaneously laughing until you pee your pants. That pretty much sums up what Snap Conference is like for me.

Snap Conference Group Photo

When I started my blog, I had no idea that there were even other bloggers really out there. I started it so I could have something to do and somewhere to showcase what I was doing while Dave was student teaching. After post of mine went somewhat viral, I realized that I could take this whole blogging thing a little further and do it for real. That was when I learned about Snap Conference. It was 3 years ago and it was completely life changing.

Snap Conference 2014 recap

Because of that first conference, I met some of my very best friends. I was inspired to start a guild for the Idaho bloggers. I found the courage to try new things.

Home Depot Challenge Geometric Table

To say I have a soft spot for Snap Conference would be a serious understatement… It would be like saying that the season finale of Scandal was no big deal… or like saying that Jimmy Fallon is only kind of cute. Snap Conference literally changed my life and continues to change my life every year. I am asked a lot about how different blog conferences compare to each other. For me, it is an unfair question. Nowhere else can I find all of my closest, sweetest friends in one place, away from our kids while we learn how to make what we are passionate about even better.

Now I will get off my soapbox and let you watch this week’s installment of YouTube Monday! It is a short one, but it is a goodie! See the highlights of Snap Conference. You may even see your favorite bloggers in there too!

I Love Alt Conference

Although Alt Summit was nearly 3 weeks ago, I still feel like I am in a bit of an Alt hangover. If I could describe it in just a short summary, I would say… Full days, friends, and fun.

Although I did have so much fun hanging out with like crazy people who think just like I do, I learned SO much. At the beginning of 2014, I decided that a goal I wanted to set for my blog is to focus more on video. I have some really great ideas that I would love to share with my readers, but I know the best way of doing that would be through videos. The problem? I don’t know much about video editing at all! Well, that all changed at Alt conference. Out of the four classes I took, three of them were video related! Bring on the videos! I don’t have any yet, but they will be coming soon so be sure to follow me on YouTube HERE! I got to learn from video greats like Alison, Jenner Brown, and Hailey Devine. I can’t wait to put all of the info I learned to good use!

Alt SLC 2014 Friday Morning

I also got some amazing advice on growing my community on Facebook, Instagram, and through my newsletter from some really incredible people. I learned so much! I can’t wait to start putting more thought into those areas too. Up until now, my newsletter has just been kind of a recap of what you may have missed, but there will be some changes coming! Be sure to sign up for my newsletter on the sidebar to see what I have in store!

Alt SLC 2014 Friday Closing Keynote

I was blown away by the sponsor lounges that were open for bloggers to hang out in. These sponsors went ALL OUT on these lounges. They only had a matter of hours to set these lounges up and they were incredible! My favorite lounge was the one done by Cricut.

Alt SLC 2014 Friday Morning

Alt SLC 2014 Friday Morning

Cricut also threw an awesome green themed party where everyone attending felt like little bugs in a giant flower garden. It was really incredible!

Alt SLC 2014 Thursday Party

They had one of my favorite photo booths too! The Method Cleaning photo booth. I may have had a little too much fun in there.

Another one of my favorite parts of Alt was attending all of the mini parties. They were all decked out in awesomeness! They all had different themes. It was really fun to hop from one theme to another in each room. The really fun one to be at was the Shark Tank party to watch Susan of Freshly Picked on Shark Tank as it aired on TV! She is such an inspiration. It was really cool to be there with her during such a special moment. She also knows how to throw a pretty epic party! Her photo booth was SO fun too!

I was really lucky to get such incredible roommates too. We didn’t stay at the Grand America like most of the attendees did, but we made the most of our little ghetto hotel. We had lots of laughs and didn’t have any drama either! What more can you ask for with a room full of girls? I roomed with Kaylynn, Sadie, and Dani. I love these girls so much.

Overall, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience with Alt Summit. I would go again in a heartbeat. I was able to make some really amazing connections and can’t wait to start collaborating with some of these talented people.

NONE of this would have been possible if it weren’t for my sponsors. I reached out to three of my favorite businesses to see if they would be willing to support my journey to Alt and they were all so generous and willing to help me out. I will be sharing more of their awesomeness in the future too, but if you have read my blog for a while, you already know how much I love Expressions Vinyl, Cut it Out, and Navy Perl. There really doesn’t need to be any introduction made because you probably already know just how epic these businesses are, but just in case you don’t already know how great they are I will give you a little introduction to each of them.

Expressions Vinyl is the ultimate destination for all things vinyl. If you have a craft cutter (or you are just about to buy one of the new Cricut Expressions machines), you have to shop at Expressions Vinyl too! They sell vinyl in just about any shade you could ever dream of. They have indoor vinyl, outdoor vinyl, glitter vinyl, iron on vinyl, metallic vinyl, glow in the dark, magnetic, chalkboard, the list could go on and on. They seriously have the BEST selection out there. They also have great customer service too. We all know, THAT is what really matters. When a company has great customer service, they create a lifetime customer out of me. They also have the fastest shipping I have ever seen. Thank you Expressions Vinyl for helping me get to Alt Summit!

Cut it Out

Cut it Out is the place to go when you need wood frames, letters, or shapes. They have the best frame shapes around! I am using a lot of their frames in my living room makeover! The great thing about Cut it Out products, is that they are unfinished! That is good for a few reasons. One is that you can totally customize what color or pattern you want on your projects. You don’t have to settle with whatever colors are available. You get to be creative! Another great thing about Cut it Out, is that it is SO affordable! These frames are seriously fancy, but they don’t have a fancy price tag. I would recommend them to anyone! No matter what your style is, they are perfect for you. If they don’t have a frame or shape that you are looking for, they do custom orders. They are also some of the nicest people you will ever deal with. I love supporting companies that are home grown. This one literally is run out of a home! They are amazing.

Navy Perl

Navy Perl is the cutest little online shop you have ever seen. They are THE place to shop for head wraps, suspenders, Salt Water Sandals, and bow ties! You probably already know this, but I wear head wraps almost every dang day of my life. They are the perfect accessory to wear with any outfit. They are great for the days that you don’t want to do your hair either, which let’s face it is almost everyday. They get the best prints for their wraps too! They have them in any type of style you would ever want. They are also the highest quality head wraps that I have ever worn! Another bonus, they are also the most inexpensive head wraps I have ever worn too! Run, don’t walk to Navy Perl.

HUGE thanks to my sponsors for making this happen! I CANNOT wait to put all of this knowledge to good use!

Crap I learned at Snap

If you missed the previous days of Blog Conference Prep Week, check them out here, here, and here!

Blog Conference Prep Week on www.girllovesglam #blog #conference #tips

Last year, Snap Conference changed my life. It was a repeat offender this year too. I am totally blown away by the amount of work that has gone into planning Snap each year and the amount of knowledge I somehow cram into my brain in a matter of 3 days. What is the most amazing part about it though, is the friendships and connections that I make each year! These people are INCREDIBLE! They think just like I do and live the same, sometimes bazaar life that I do.

Crap I learned at Snap. Lessons learned that aren't crap at all from #snapconf #blog

There will probably be a bit of picture overload, but I just HAVE to share them all with you! Visit these blogs too! I promise you will come across some serious gems out there! From the photo above… Top Left: Crystal from A Pumpkin and a Princess, Me, Natalie from My Sister’s Suitcase, and Allison from Cupcake Diaries. Top Right: Aly from Entirely Eventful, Elyse, Kristen, and Camille from Six Sister’s Stuff, Courtney is also known as the 7th sister and has a blog of her own that I don’t know the url for yet, Holly and Nat from My Sister’s Suitcase, Aleisha from Call me Mama Leisha, me, and Cobi from Peace from 6 Pieces. Bottom Left: Aleisha and me. Bottom right: me and Staci from The Potter’s Place.

Now for a few things I learned from the classes (I learned a ton more than this, but this is a VERY condensed version)…

Google+: Google+ is amazing! It is really easy to connect with people on there through Google Hangouts (like Skype) that can be private or broadcasted live. When sharing on G+ DO NOT hit the email to friends option because it annoys your friends! Communities can be great ways to connect with readers.

Pinterest: The eye craves negative space. Carefully stage photos. Pin in the morning and at night. Engage in the Pinterest community. Pin only the best pictures.

Monetization: Take clutter off sidebars. Make sure to backfill ads. Stay in contact with networks. Design your blog around ads to integrate them in.

Collaborating with brands: You don’t always need to get paid in real money. Always be sure the brand fits. Be authentic always! Have a media kit. Read contracts you sign. Deliver the goods!

Branding: Decide who you are. Be consistant. Be relatable. Work with your designer. Define yourself.

Instagram: Make people feel something. Share the good, the bad, and even the ugly. Practice makes perfect! Create hashtags. Interact with people on Instagram. Do contests.

Virtual Assistants: Decide what you need help with. Let go of 3-4 things at first. Ask friends for recommendations. Ask for references. Know what you can afford. Be bossy.

Poppyseed Projects: Photo texture cream is the bomb.

Just when my mind felt like I couldn’t stuff any more information into it, I got to know some of the greatest people on earth who taught me even more! I learned a little more about Photoshop, Pinterest, etc. Most of all, I learned how to enjoy myself and not stress out about life. I got to stay up late with the giggles and talk about everything from makeup to eating too much fiber (ok we won’t go too much into that conversation…)

I got to participate in a Lowe’s challenge where we got to make whatever we wanted with the tools we were given. It took a lot of problem solving (picture a bunch of girls in cardigans trying to hammer in screws because we had no other option at the moment) and a whole lot of teamwork, but we created some fun outdoor porch decor that I totally would have used at my own house! It helps that I had the greatest team ever. Holly of My Sister’s Suitcase, Me, Katie of Sweet Rose Studio, Jamie of The Crafting Chicks, and Whitney of A Mommy’s Life with a Touch of Yellow.

All I’ve gotta say is, I can’t wait for next year!

What to take to a blog conference

Welcome back to Blog Conference Prep Week! In case you missed out on the first two days, you can find the one about business cards here and the one about pimping up those business cards here!

Blog Conference Prep Week on www.girllovesglam #blog #conference #tips

Now to move on with the series, I am going to tell you a few things to remember to take to blog conferences!

1. Business cards- Obviously, if I spent the last 2 days talking about them, they are important!

2. Your phone and phone charger- If you have a smart phone, chances are, you will take most of your photos with your phone. Then your phone will die and you will need your phone charger.

3. Your DSLR- I didn’t use mine at ALL this year, but I realized it is because I never did what I wanted to do with it. Don’t plan on taking your nice camera to the classes because chances are, you won’t use it there. Take your DSLR so that your friends can take new head shots of you or so that you can get great pictures of your surroundings and the people who are at the conference.

4. Clothing you are comfortable in- Be sure you feel like yourself at blog conferences. You want to represent your blog well, but you want to be comfortable with what you are wearing. That doesn’t mean sweats, it just means clothes that you feel like yourself in!

5. Roomie gifts- I know this sounds cheesy, but nothing kicks off a blog conference quite like getting presents from your roomies! It is really fun! They don’t need to be big, just a little something to show them you care.

Blog Conference Prep Week: Pimp Those Business Cards!

I hope you all are enjoying this little series that I am doing! I will probably come back to it myself when I prep for my next blog conference. If you missed it yesterday, I talked all about what you should include on a blog business card. You can find that post here.

Blog Conference Prep Week on www.girllovesglam #blog #conference #tips

Today, is all about taking your business cards to the next level. Did you even know there was such a thing? It isn’t mandatory, but adding a little something to your business cards can be a great way to give people something to remember you by. When I went to the Build Your Blog Conference in February, I decided to hand out decals that said “I Blog” in a few different styles for people to put on their phones, computers, tablets, etc. They were pretty popular! I was nervous about taking the same thing to Snap Conference, but decided to go ahead and do decals again. Only this time, I made more styles and colors to choose from. I had over 20 different options! Here are a few of those options…

Blog vinyl decals for business cards on #blog #conference

They were a huge success! I had people trying to find me just to get a decal. That is what you want! Come up with something that people would want to get from you. You want to give them a sense of urgency to come find you and meet you. Personally, I wanted to give them something that they could relate with. I wanted them to be able to put it somewhere that they would see often so that each time they see that decal, they think of my blog! Other people gave out items that related more to their blogs like glitter in a tiny bottle that was supposed to be “pixie dust”, or an interactive business card that you could color. Make sure it fits your style! The best part for me has been seeing pictures on Instagram of people’s decals after they have put them on their phones, tablets, notebooks, etc.

Find something that you yourself would want to receive, attach them to your business cards, and start handing those suckers out! Make sure they remember YOU!
