Back to School Clothes Deals

This post is sponsored by Kohl’s. I received the included back to school clothes and essentials as compensation. #KohlsBackToSchool

It is almost time for school to start again! It is hard to believe that this year, I will have a child in kindergarten! We did a little back to school shopping for preschool, but this is our first year of really needing to go shopping for a lot of back to school clothes. It is insane just how much kids can grow in even just one summer! Thankfully, we were able to find some really great deals and I hope they can help you get the most bang for your back to school buck, too!

Home Gym with Little Space and Little Money

“This post is sponsored by Kohl’s.  I was paid for this post and received the included fitness equipment as compensation.”

Exercise has become a huge part of our lives as a family in the past year. My husband lost over 50 lbs this past year, ran a half marathon, and has completely changed the way he lives his life. This has really rubbed off on the rest of our family as well. Although I have always loved exercising, I haven’t ever been great about focusing on eating healthy as well. Now that I am almost done with this pregnancy, I am already planning my eating and exercise plan for once my baby is born.

We decided to create a little home gym so that we could save money on gym memberships and still be able to get our exercise with our new baby at home. We had very little space and little money to create a home gym, but I love our little area that we created!

Finding the Best Athletic Underwear

This post is sponsored by Kohl’s.  I was paid for this post and received the included underwear as compensation.

It may sound a little crazy, but I have been on a journey to finding the perfect athletic underwear for a while now. Last spring, I found my love for running and that was one area I wasn’t too familiar with when it came to what type of undergarments I should be wearing. I also have learned from a lot of trial and error what types of underwear I prefer for my cross training that I like to do as well.

When it comes to running, the biggest concern for most people is chafing. Anything that you can wear to prevent chafing is the best. There are a lot of different brands out there with athletic shorts, but my favorite has definitely been Nike.

Camping Hunt Preschool Activity and Backyard Campout Ideas

This post is sponsored by Kohl’s. All opinions are my own.

Backyard Campout Ideas for Familes

I will be the first to admit that I am not a huge camper. Since being married, we have camped annually at a family reunion and that has been about the extent of my camping adventures for the past eight years. Last summer, we wanted to try camping in our backyard before family reunion came around so that our four year old could get used to the idea of sleeping in a tent. Family reunion was her first real camping experience and we wanted to be totally prepared for it. I have heard of people taking their camp trailers to camping locations close to their home for the first time each season as kind of a trial run for the year. I loved that idea! It is a great way to make sure you have everything you will need when the time comes to actually go camping.

Backyard camping is the perfect solution for our family right now. We are still a pretty young family and are still getting the hang of things in the camping world. Since our first backyard campout, it has become a favorite of ours. There are a few things that can make backyard camping special. [Read more…]

WIW: Casual Color Blocked Spring

casual color blocked top style on

The weather is finally holding up its end of the Spring deal. The sun comes out and stays out. All I can say is it is about dang time! I love putting together new outfits for this warmer weather. Most days it is still too cold to wear shorts, but that is why I love the style of rolling up your jeans to give your look a little more of a spring style. These jeans are Lauren Conrad skinny ankle jeans and I swear they were made to perfectly fit my frame. I have never had jeans fit the way that these jeans fit. You have to try these jeans. I have them in two different washes and have all intentions of buying more too.

blue color block top

Honestly, I have never been a big fan of color blocking. There are some things that I have liked that are color blocked, but it was kind of a tough concept for me to totally embrace. I haven’t fully embraced it, but I finally found a color blocked top that I am absolutely obsessed with. I like that the colors work together and that isn’t super tight on my body. I feel like when I wear super tight fitting skinny jeans, it is nice to have a loose fitting top. This top lets me feel like I can let it all hang out! By which I mean my flabby stomach. I don’t have to suck in and I can feel fabulous AND comfortable. Hallelujah!

Natural Wedge Sandals

These wedge shoes are another one of my fabulous Rack Room Shoes finds. They are probably the most comfortable shoes in my entire closet. No lie. I could probably even jog in these babies. I love that I can wear them with ANYTHING too! I have a feeling I will be developing some tan lines that match these sandals this summer.

Casual Summer Outfit

I think it is important to put together a few outfits that you know that you can totally rely on for each season. You never know when you have an impromptu BBQ to go to or when you are walking out the door and your kid who you thought was totally potty trained goes potty all over you and you have to change at the last second. This outfit is one outfit I know I can rely on when I am in a time cramp and don’t have the time to get an outfit figured out. It is casual enough that I could wear it to a baseball game, but I don’t feel like a slob.

Don’t forget to sign up for the ToAdorn newsletter so you don’t miss any of there amazing daily deals like this gorgeous top! Rack Room Shoes is also holding a contest to find some shoe models! Go to their site to find all of the details on that and how you could win a trip to a fancy professional photo shoot!

Bra Fitting Made Easy

Bra Fitting Made Easy

Finding the right bra is a total pain. You know it. I know it. Kohl’s knows it too. They know that finding the right bra can be a journey that can bring out the innermost frustrations in any woman’s heart. Kohl’s also knows that once you find the right bra, it can bring tears to your eyes. That is why Kohl’s created the perfect resource to find out your perfect bra size. They have a website that you simply just put in your measurements and it spits out your bra size. It’s basically the most amazing resource to bra fitting that I have ever experienced. Check it out HERE. Is the bra you are wearing the correct size?

I loved learning my true bra size. I haven’t had a bra fitting since having a baby. I needed a new bra (or two) to make me feel more comfortable and feel good knowing that I was finally wearing the right sized bra. I have known for a while that I needed to get a bra that really fit me. I have a friend, Courtney who blogs at Fry Sauce and Grits who is the bra fitting expert. She always talks about how important it is to have a bra that fits properly. I had her write up a few tips so that you can go into a bra shopping experience armed and ready to find the perfect bra for you. Here are a few of her tips…

There’s five things you need to be looking for when you’re trying on bras and making sure they fit correctly.  I call it the 5 Point Check, it’s a lot like the checklist you go through when you parallel park.

Do the five point check.  The five point check is so important in deciding whether or not that bra you’re trying on and thinking about buying is a good fit.  Fit is SO important, it’s more important than what it looks like, remember that.

  • Top Cup.  Do you feel like you’re coming out of the top of the bra?  Do you see a lot of cleavage?  Do you have the double boob?  The double boob is when the top of the cup goes into the breast and therefore makes it looks like you have two boobs stacked on top of each other.  If you said yes to any of these, you need to up a cup size.  If you want to see some beautiful pictures of this being illustrated, go here.
  • Sides.  Is the bra covering the sides of your breasts?  If it’s not, then you’ll need to go up a cup size.  My rule of thumb, is you want to have at LEAST 1/4″ of space between your breasts and the underwire or bra on the sides.
  • Bottom Cup.  Lift your arms up and pay attention to the bottom of the cups and ask yourself, do you feel like you’re hanging out of the bottom?  If yes, then you need to go up a cup size.  Same rule applies to the sides, try to get at least a 1/4″ inch of space from your breast and the bottom of the bra.
  • Band.  Is your band snug?  If you said yes, that’s great!  That’s how it should be.  Your bra will stretch with use and wear.  Remember, your band is where most of your support comes from.  Make sure the band is lying low in the back (below the middle section of your back), and if you have hooks in the back, make sure the band is snug on the loosest set of hooks when you try it on.  One trick to making sure your band is snug enough is do a couple of jumping jacks and move around a lot and see afterwards if you have to adjust it or if you feel like your bra is riding up in the back.  If it is, then you need to go down a band size.
  • Middle.  The middle is the part where the underwire in the front come up and almost touch.  You want to make sure the middle part of the bra is lying against your skin and is completely separating your breasts.  If you can tell the underwire is laying on top of your breasts this means the cup size is too small and you need to go up a cup size.
If you have any bra questions or concerns, check out my bra posts on my blog here, or you can email me at!
Isn’t that the best advice? She knows everything when it comes to bras! Now that you have gotten advice from a professional bra fitter and have the resources given on the Kohl’s website here, you just need to go find yourself a bra! Thankfully Kohl’s has a ginormous selection of bras that fit any bust and any budget! Hurry to your nearest Kohl’s to find your perfect bra while they are having their huge Underneath It All sale. They have a coupon for $10 off your intimates purchase for $40 or more in store and online. It ends April 6th.
Do you wear the correct bra size? Do you think bra shopping is a chore? What is your bra type preference?

$50 Kohl’s Gift Card #talkpink Giveaway

I think it is safe to say that every person has somehow been effected by cancer in some degree. They probably know someone, or know someone who knows someone who has had cancer. The same goes for breast cancer. Breast cancer effects so many people each year. Not just women.

It really is scary to think about how many people die of breast cancer each year. The saddest part about it, is in many cases the cancer could have been stopped if it was detected earlier. That is why it is so important for all women to get frequent breast cancer screenings and to feel for lumps regularly on their own.

I want to tell you a little about three breast cancer survivors who are really special to me. They are my grandma, and two of my aunts.

This is my Grandma Hill. She is one of my favorite people in the entire world. She has been through a lot of trials in her life, and has always come out on top of it all with a smile on her face. She is one tough cookie. All the while, she is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet. I don’t know a human on this planet who knows my grandma and doesn’t have fabulous things to say about her.

In the 1980’s, right after my parents were married, my uncle was in a car accident that paralyzed him from the waist down. He spent a long time in the hospital because they didn’t know if he was even going to live through it all. While he was in the hospital, my grandma was diagnosed with breast cancer. My mom has told me several times that that was one of the toughest times she has had to go through. She was a young newlywed with a sick mom and a brother who was fighting for his life. Thankfully grandma was able to get surgery to remove the cancer and made a full recovery. That wasn’t the last of the medical emergencies that she has experienced, but hearing that story about her makes me realize just how strong she has always been. I appreciate her strength that she is passing onto her posterity.

Speaking of her posterity, I will tell you a little about the second breast cancer survivor I want to talk to you about. That survivor, is my aunt. She is my mom’s older sister and best friend. A few years ago, she found a lump in her breast. She got it checked and found out that it was cancerous. I will never forget my mom’s reaction to this news. She was devastated. I could see the pain that she felt for her older sister. Thankfully, this story has a happy ending. My aunt was able to get surgery to remove all of the cancer and she has been cancer free ever since. It was really inspiring to watch her go through it all while still maintaining a good attitude about life and being present in her kids’ lives. I know that she had that strength passed down to her by my Grandma Hill.

The last survivor I want to tell you about is my dad’s older sister, Cathy. She has always been a really special person to me. She is one of the most kind people I have ever known. She has also had her fair share of difficult times in life, but has always seemed to claw her way back from the ashes. Within the same week of my other aunt being diagnosed with breast cancer, my aunt Cathy was also diagnosed with breast cancer. It was just about the only thing I could even think about. I had it coming at every angle. My aunt Cathy’s breast cancer was different from my other aunts breast cancer. Her’s was much more serious. She had to go through chemo therapy and radiation. It was hard to see her go through that. She lost a lot of weight. She felt very sick. She lost all of her hair. There is something about a woman’s hair that helps her feel like a princess. Having that taken away was pretty hard on her. I remember finding the cutest beret at a local boutique and just knowing how cute it would be on her little bald head. She rocked that beret. She wore hats and scarves everyday and always tried to look good when she felt like crap. It was a really humbling experience to see her go through all of that. It was also a testimony to me of just how strong our bodies really are. She was able to go through all of that and be able to live to tell it.

I am so grateful for these survivors that I have influenced my life for good. They have shown me what it means to have faith and to really fight to beat breast cancer while keeping a smile on their faces.

Kohl’s id doing an awesome feature on their website about breast cancer awareness with breast health tips, breast cancer warning signs, and inspirational quotes HERE. They are also hosting a hashtag #talkpink on all forms of social media where people are discussing breast cancer, how to check for signs of it, and sharing stories of strength. I encourage you to hop in on that conversation.

Kohl’s is also giving one of you readers a $50 gift card too! They want your help in spreading awareness of breast cancer. Please join the #talkpink to join in the conversation. To enter the $50 gift card giveaway, please comment with either how you have been effected by breast cancer, or with what you do to make sure you check for early signs of breast cancer.

Just another note, if you do win the gift card. Maybe think about buying a scarf or a hat for a woman out there who is going through chemo treatments in addition to the other fun things you get for yourself. Showing a cancer patient you are thinking about them can really lift their spirits and help them fight that horrible disease more quickly.

I can’t wait to read your comments! Giveaway ends 2/28/14 at midnight MST. Winner must respond to my email within 24 hours to claim the prize. Good luck!

Christmas Gift Guide for the Men in Our Lives

It can be hard to shop for men. They say they aren’t picky, but when it really comes down to it, they are. There are so many gift guides out there that are really broad, but not every man likes the same thing. They have different styles too! I created a Christmas gift guide for the types of men in my life that I will be buying for this year and I hope that they offer a little guidance for you too! I have collaborated with Kohl’s a few times in the past and I absolutely love their company and their products. Everything I have chosen is from Kohl’s which is a total bonus because they always seem to have great coupons and deals too so you can rest assured that these items will be at some of the best prices you can find anywhere!

First off, I have my dad to shop for. He can be hard to shop for because when he wants something throughout the year, he just buys it. He is kind of a computer nerd, but he has recently gotten really interested in training for a triathlon. I created a gift guide for him that would hopefully give you some gift ideas for the athletic man in your life!

I’m sure that  most of us have a tech savvy man in our lives. I actually have a few in my life. My dad and my husband. However, my husband’s entire life revolves around technology. He is an online teacher and an online student. When he isn’t working on the computer, he gets to hear about my job that revolves around the internet as well. He needs to look nice when he works, but wants to be pretty comfortable because he is sitting at a computer desk all day. It is important to keep his gift guide both tech inspired and full of nice, comfortable clothes. Something that makes Kohl’s the perfect place to shop for him, is they have a pretty large selection of tall sizes! My husband is 6’5” and it is really hard to find him stylish, affordable clothes that actually fit him. Kohl’s is our go to spot for his wardrobe. I will be linking to tall sizes for his gift guide, but almost all of their tall clothes are available in regular sizes too.

Teenage boys can be really hard to shop for. They have very specific styles that they like or everything they want is way over the budget. My brother is 16 years old and fits both of those categories… he has really a really specific style and everything else he wants is a small fortune. I pulled together a few things that I think he would really like. Hopefully it can help ease your shopping experience with your teenage boys!
