Summer Style Must Haves

I love shopping when the seasons change. Okay, okay I love shopping anytime… BUT I especially love shopping when the seasons change. I like to look at my wardrobe and look at what the new trends are for the season and see what must have items I need to add to my closet. I have already started adding some of this goodness to my closet, but I wanted to share some of my summer style must haves with you! Recently, I was introduced to ShopLately, an online marketplace that is full of tons of different shops that you can shop from all at the same time! It has been my new one stop shop for my Summer style and I found all of these goodies there.

Summer Style Must Haves

Printed Maxi Skirt– Maxi skirts are the greatest invention on earth for moms with young children. You can feel super chic while you wear them, but you can also bend over, climb up, and do any other task motherhood asks of you. I am in love with printed maxi skirts this season. I am always a sucker for stripes and I love that this skirt has vertical stripes so it can make my short 5′ 4” frame look taller than it is.

Vintage Inspired Swimwear– I love all of the vintage inspired swimwear that is available. Years ago, I had to search high and low to find a vintage inspired swimming suit and now you can find them all over the place. The great thing about vintage inspired swimwear, is that it is usually much more flattering on curves than many other swimming suits are. I am completely smitten by this swimming suit because I think it would literally look good on anyone! It hides everything without wearing an ugly “mom suit”. And let’s be honest, you can’t ever go wrong with a nautical theme in my book. Perfection!

Floral Chiffon Kimono– Oh, you guys. I was really torn about the kimono trend at first, but I am totally on board now. I own this floral kimono and  I literally wear it weekly. It looks amazing with skinny jeans, shorts, skirts, as a swimming suit cover up… everything! I feel like I can throw it on top of any top and it instantly dresses it up. This particular kimono is so soft and luxurious feeling too. I am basically obsessed. I can’t wait to add to my kimono collection throughout the summer.

Work Out Tanks– There has got to be some sort of study done to prove the theory that when you have cute workout clothes, you work out more often. Even if there isn’t an official study done, I am a firm believer of that. If I have cute workout clothes, I workout more often and I feel like I even work out harder if I can actually see my body instead of wearing big, over sized shirts. I love exercising outside during the summer and although I don’t actually love running, I think this tank is hilarious and partially true on my part. I workout because I love food…. like a lot.

Flirty Skirts– There are always going to be those special events during the summer months that you need to find something a little more special to wear. I am a huge fan of having a few skirts that you know you can count on for moments like these. When the time comes, you don’t have to put a lot of thought into what you are going to wear. I absolutely love stripes and love all of these black and white striped skirts that I have seen around lately. This skirt would be perfect to wear to a wedding, girls’ night, or date night.

Dressy Flat Sandals– I love tall shoes. I am so short that I feel like I need to wear tall shoes to make up for the lack of height that I have genetically, but tall wedge sandals aren’t always the best thing to wear to every occasion. I should now tell you how much I hate flip flops. I am a total hater of flip flops. I own them and wear them when I am going to a water park or something because I don’t really care if they get stolen because they are so cheap, but I am a firm believer in having some classy flat sandals. I am so in love with these gold bow sandals. I own them and wear them all of the time. I feel like I can wear them with a skirt, jeans, or shorts. The best part? They are actually jelly sandals! They don’t even look like it, do they?!

Oxfords– Words can hardly express my gratitude that oxfords are in style. Like I said, I love anything vintage inspired. I have owned several oxford type shoes in my lifetime and still love them to this day. They are a summer must have for me because sometimes you just need a great pair of closed toe shoes during the summer. I think that oxford shoes are perfect because you can wear them without socks (or no show socks) and they look fun and casual without wearing your running shoes. You can run around in them and still look totally chic.

Now that I have spilled my guts about my Summer style must haves, what are yours? What pieces of clothing do you plan on adding to your closet this season?

What I Wore: Muah! Summer Style

A few weeks ago, I went to Snap Conference. When you are planning on spending days upon days full of incredibly talented blogger women, you think and then rethink and then rethink and maybe even rethink some more about what you are going to wear. After laying out all of my favorite clothes on my bed, I came up with this outfit. I knew it was an instant hit.

Really, it is a combination of everything that I love. Makeup, t-shirts, prints, stretchy skirts, and cute wedge shoes. I mean, does it get any better than that?

Wait! It does get better. There are kisses on the back! Okay, now it officially doesn’t get any better.

This summer, if you are ever in doubt about what to wear all you need to do is pick out your favorite t-shirt. Instead of pairing it with the same pair of jeans that you usually wear with it, try pairing it with a jersey knit skirt. There are so many skirt options out there including varying lengths and patterns so the possibilities are pretty endless. Try the shirt with different skirts. Give yourself a little variety. You will thank me later.

Memorial Day Style

I love that Memorial Day seems to be the unofficial kick off to summer fun! Although, we don’t usually do anything spectacular on Memorial Day, I always love just spending time with my family and whipping out the grill to celebrate summer coming in our own way. In Idaho, it isn’t warm enough to go swimming or anything, so we usually eat a casual outdoor lunch or dinner and just spend time together as a family. It is my favorite!

One of my favorite parts about the change of season, is the change that happens to my wardrobe too. I love bringing out the shorts and short sleeved shirts again when the warm weather comes. It is always fun to get my family a few new pieces of summer clothing too just as a way to celebrate the warm weather finally making its arrival here in Idaho, where the winter weather never seems to go away.

I like to pretend that I can get my family to all match and go to fancy BBQ parties, so I put together a few fun outfits that would be perfect for my family to wear on Memorial Day. They would be great for Independence Day too!

First up, is my outfit.

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5

I like to think that I would be able to wear a knee length summer dress at a family BBQ but when it comes right down to it, shorts are the way to go when you plan on chasing a toddler around the backyard while keeping them away from the hot grill while they are trying to “help” grandpa cook burgers. I love the little hint of patriotic spirit that comes from the flag scarf. These espadrille wedges are the perfect way to dress up the entire look too.

Now for dad’s look.

1 | 2 | 3 | 4

I know that men don’t typically want to look like they are walking around like a giant American flag, so I chose to downplay the whole red, white, and blue theme and pull it in a little more casually. The boat shoes are perfect for running around in the backyard, but are still a little more dressy and stylish than tennis shoes. Dad can feel both comfortable and stylish in this outfit.

Last but not least, little girl’s outfit.

1 | 2 | 3 | 4

Toddlers love to run around and make the most of life. That is why I chose these super cute star shorts for this Memorial Day outfit. Little girl can run around like the crazy person she is, and still look like a million bucks. The poncho and sunglasses seemed to be the perfect pair to go with the shorts too. And who can ignore the adorably, sassy espadrille sandals? She can match mom without breaking an ankle with tall wedges. Perfection!

Want to know the best part about all of these outfits? They are all from Old Navy and every single item in their store will be up to 50% off on Memorial Day weekend! Now, if that wasn’t great enough, every Old Navy store will be giving away a Weber grill on Saturday May 24th too so you can really celebrate Memorial Day in style!

It doesn’t get much better than that! I want to know what your plans are for Memorial day. How are you going to celebrate the unofficial first day of summer?

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Old Navy Memorial Day. The opinions and text are all mine.

WIW: Casual Color Blocked Spring

casual color blocked top style on www.girllovesglam.com

The weather is finally holding up its end of the Spring deal. The sun comes out and stays out. All I can say is it is about dang time! I love putting together new outfits for this warmer weather. Most days it is still too cold to wear shorts, but that is why I love the style of rolling up your jeans to give your look a little more of a spring style. These jeans are Lauren Conrad skinny ankle jeans and I swear they were made to perfectly fit my frame. I have never had jeans fit the way that these jeans fit. You have to try these jeans. I have them in two different washes and have all intentions of buying more too.

blue color block top

Honestly, I have never been a big fan of color blocking. There are some things that I have liked that are color blocked, but it was kind of a tough concept for me to totally embrace. I haven’t fully embraced it, but I finally found a color blocked top that I am absolutely obsessed with. I like that the colors work together and that isn’t super tight on my body. I feel like when I wear super tight fitting skinny jeans, it is nice to have a loose fitting top. This top lets me feel like I can let it all hang out! By which I mean my flabby stomach. I don’t have to suck in and I can feel fabulous AND comfortable. Hallelujah!

Natural Wedge Sandals

These wedge shoes are another one of my fabulous Rack Room Shoes finds. They are probably the most comfortable shoes in my entire closet. No lie. I could probably even jog in these babies. I love that I can wear them with ANYTHING too! I have a feeling I will be developing some tan lines that match these sandals this summer.

I think it is important to put together a few outfits that you know that you can totally rely on for each season. You never know when you have an impromptu BBQ to go to or when you are walking out the door and your kid who you thought was totally potty trained goes potty all over you and you have to change at the last second. This outfit is one outfit I know I can rely on when I am in a time cramp and don’t have the time to get an outfit figured out. It is casual enough that I could wear it to a baseball game, but I don’t feel like a slob.

Don’t forget to sign up for the ToAdorn newsletter so you don’t miss any of there amazing daily deals like this gorgeous top! Rack Room Shoes is also holding a contest to find some shoe models! Go to their site to find all of the details on that and how you could win a trip to a fancy professional photo shoot!

What I Wore: When a grown woman wears a tutu

Purple net skirt and t-shirt on www.girllovesglam

Have you ever been online shopping and you see something on the site and think, “Yeah, I could pull that off! Choosing this item is a great idea” and then it comes in the mail and you have a small freak out moment thinking, “What on earth will I wear this with? I am too old for this!”… No? Well it happened to me. With this skirt. When it came in the mail, it instantly looked like a tutu to me. Maybe that is because my daughter has a tutu type skirt that is the exact same color and fabric as my skirt. It hung in my closet for about 2 weeks. I didn’t know what on earth I would wear with it.

Mint Green Converse All Star Shoes outfit on www.girllovesglam.com

Then these mint green Converse shoes came in the mail and it dawned on me… Wearing a purple net skirt doesn’t mean it is a tutu. It can be a fun, twist on the everyday outfit that I normally wear with a t-shirt. I knew this outfit was going to be pure perfection once I found the right tee.

Bam! Now I knew I could pull off the tutu. I wasn’t trying to be a fairy princess. I was literally killin’ it.

Skirt with Converse shoes

Then when I went to shoot what had quickly become my newest favorite outfit, the wind came. It came in a big way. Like a “it feels like a freaking tornado” kind of way. It was then that I realized that life is too short to take it too seriously. Life is meant to be fun. Life is meant to be a little weird. Life is meant to goofy. That is exactly what came through with this outfit and photo shoot in general and now I am grateful for that 50 mile an hour wind and the weird faces it made me make.

Now to tell you more about these fabulous shoes! Have you ever been to Rack Room Shoes? They are the bomb. They have really high quality shoes for great prices. They also have a rewards program that offers discounts and coupons and $15 in rewards for every $200 you spend. When you are buying shoes for the whole family, that can really add up to some major savings!

Another cool thing that Rack Room Shoes is doing, is they are looking for real customers to model their shoes! Rather than hiring professional models, they host an annual Models Wanted contest. They invite families to enter for a chance to win a trip to a photo shoot, and to be featured in their ads! Isn’t that the coolest? You can find more information about them on their website!

Gold and Mint Polka Dot Shirt Tutorial

Are you as excited for Spring as I am? I am not only excited about the warm weather, but I am excited about the fashion that comes with the warmer weather! I love all of the colors that start showing up in clothing during the Spring. My favorite combination lately has been mint and gold. I think it is the perfect combination for the Spring! I wanted a shirt that had both of those colors in it, but couldn’t find one. So what did I do? I made my own of course! Wouldn’t you?

DIY Gold and Mint Polka Dot Shirt

The best part about this shirt is that it is so dang easy to make! To make your own, you need…

DIY Polka Dot Shirt

*Mint paint. I mixed these two different Martha Stewart colors because I didn’t find a perfect mint that I liked.

*Gold paint. I mixed these two gold paint colors to create the color I wanted.

*Round sponge brushes

*White shirt. Mine is a Hanes men’s v neck shirt. If you don’t already know this secret, the men’s v neck Hanes shirts are THE BEST v neck shirts ever.

How to Make a polka dot shirt

Making this shirt is really easy. Just dip the sponge brush into the paint and tap the majority of the paint off of it onto the side of the bowl. Then put a dot onto the shirt. Make sure that you put cardboard in your shirt so it doesn’t bleed through. Something I discovered later, is that this shirt would look awesome if you paint the inside and then wear it right side out with the polka dots peeking through. It looks kind of like a burnt out tee. I just eyeballed how far apart to make the polka dots because I wanted it to be a little more whimsical, and less straight and perfect. I traded off doing mint and gold rows, but you could do any sort of pattern or no pattern at all if you wanted too. I think any assortment of these two colors would be amazing.

DIY Polka Dot Shirt Tutorial

Go along your entire shirt and let the paint dry. Keep in mind that the paint will probably change colors a little bit as it dries. My gold paint lightened up a lot after it dried, which is what I was hoping for.

After your paint is dry, you can rock your new creation and feel all ready for Spring!

Today I am teaming up with eleven other bloggers to introduce you to a brand new site that is launching today. The Little Black Fashion Truck started as a pop-up traveling boutique. The owner Erin said, “Everything around changes all the time and I loved the idea of having something mobile and versatile to serve more people and still offer quality service to every customer. The mobile boutique offers the opportunity to have a more intimate feel to the service provided and provide a new way to shop for people who hate the crowds, snobby salespeople, and dealing with commissioned sales staff.”

After a year of traveling around in Idaho she is taking her store online to accommodate her fans from other states.

Um, before you look at these photos… Let’s pretend that my amazing photographer took these. Wait, that would be a total insult to her. I had to do the good ol’ self timer for these. They aren’t nearly as pretty as the ones that Ann takes. Probably because we don’t have to take them in my yard… that DESPERATELY needs mowed. It gives it the jungle/in the wild vibes, right?

I chose to try this gorgeous tribal print maxi skirt out. It is literally the most comfortable thing in my closet.

WIW: Black and White Striped Dress

Photo Credit: Cliq Photography @ann_cliqphotography on Instagram

When I went to NYC with Kleenex, I felt a sense of pressure on what I was going to wear when I was at their event at Grand Central Station with Isaac Mizrahi. I mean, what do you wear to meet a designer when you don’t have the budget to go out and grab one of his designs right then and there?

Striped Dress with Bright Accents on www.girllovesglam.com

For reals, this will go down as one of my favorite outfits… ever.

Black and White Striped Dress with bright accents on www.girllovesglam.com

I love a classic black and white look. And I love color. Why not marry the two? Thankfully, I already owned 90% of this outfit. The only thing I purchased for my trip, was my dress. It was perfect for the event and I felt professional and confident while I was there representing Kleenex as a brand ambassador. Unfortunately, because I did already own most of this and because this dress from Kohl’s is so dang cute, everything I am wearing is unavailable. I did, however find some very similar items (some are exactly the same too)!’

5 Summer Trends I’m Excited to Rock

5 Summer Trends 2014

I love it when seasons change. Things are finally starting to look like Spring around here, but all I can think about is Summer. Every time I feel the heat of the sun, it makes me long for the hot weather that is soon to come… Well maybe not that soon! I do live in Idaho (aka the frozen tundra of the USA). Regardless of what the weather is like right now, I can’t help but dream of the trends I will be able to rock once the sun decides to stay.

I found some gorgeous pieces from Macy’s that all represent the exact trends that I plan on wearing this summer! The best part is that they just started their Friends and Family Sale yesterday and will run through May 5. It includes 25% off your purchase and if you shop online, you can get free shipping on orders over $99 or more. Just use promo code SAVINGSFF at checkout.

What trends are you excited to rock this summer? I narrowed mine down to 5 categories.

Floral Print Dresses–  I love wearing dresses in the sunshine. I love finding dresses that are full enough that I can still run around and be a mom in. I fell head over heels for the dress pictured above from Macy’s. You can find it HERE.

Swim Cover Ups– I think it is just as important to wear a cute cover up as it is to wear a cute swimming suit! I find myself wearing the cover up more than I wear the swimming suit by itself. It is important to find one that you feel comfortable in and is easy to put on and take off so you can make the most of your days by the pool. You can find the one featured above, HERE.

Bold Colored Sandals– Pairing a sweet summertime outfit with a gorgeous pair of sandals in a bold color is the PERFECT way to polish an outfit. The mint sandals featured above can be found HERE.

Bright Totes– Big totes make the perfect accessory for an impromptu road trip or a weekend getaway. Choosing a bright color makes any drab outfit fabulous. You can find the one featured above, HERE.

Detailed Swimming Suit– This summer, swimming suits are all about the little details. It might be the print, the cut, or gorgeous little rosettes like the swimming suit featured above, HERE.

This post was sponsored by Macy’s. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
