I love that hats are so on trend right now. There is nothing that can pump up the volume to an outfit quite like an amazing hat can. That’s exactly what happened to this outfit when I put on this killer cobalt blue felt beauty. All of a sudden, a black and white look became playful and unique. Just the way it is supposed to be.

That is one of the really great things I love about fashion. It is so personal. There are plenty of trends that I can appreciate on other people, but I wouldn’t choose to wear myself. That is probably the case with this outfit. Maybe it is a little too much for someone, but it represents who I am. I think fashion is worth taking a little risk every once and a while. They are just clothes! Why not have a little fun while you are trying to figure out what style is just right for you? Sometimes when I am doing these photoshoots, I think to myself, “What the heck am I doing? I am no model. I am no size zero model.” But guess what? That is another part that I have really learned to appreciate. I have learned to appreciate the way clothes fit me. They fit me like a girl who loves food and loves exercise should fit. Do I have a flat stomach? Nope! I never have and probably never will. Will I be asked to model for some clothing line anytime soon? Nope. Probably never. That’s okay. I am not trying to be the next big thing in fashion blogging by any means. I am so NOT a fashion blogger. I am far too cheap to be a fashion blogger.

So… Why do I do this? Why do I put myself out there and show off my style in my non model body? Because I want to inspire my readers to not be afraid of what may seem scary. I want you all to know that it is okay to not look the way that the media makes you feel like you have to look. It is okay that some days candy corn is the closest thing to a vegetable that touched your lips. It happens to all of us. Don’t hate yourself over it. Love yourself for who you are and what you see yourself doing each day. One day, I want my kids to look back at these pictures and see that their mom wasn’t afraid to be herself… Will they laugh at my pictures and the style of clothes that I wore? You betcha! I laugh at some of the outfits I put together a year ago!

But what did I say about fashion? “One day you’re in and the next day you’re out!” Wait… that wasn’t me who said that! I said… Fashion is all about finding who you are and what your own style is! It is about having fun! Laugh at yourself sometimes. Don’t take it too seriously. Love yourself in whatever you are wearing today, whether that is your business suit, paint covered jeans, or your “mom uniform”. Own it. Love yourself and don’t be afraid to take some risks every once and a while.
