How to Cut Your Own Split Ends

When I was in a salon full time, my clients would ask me how they could extend the wear of their haircut. I would give them shampoo, conditioner, and hair product recommendations, but the trick that they seemed to be most excited about was when I would teach them how to cut your own split ends.

Cutting your own split ends isn’t as scary as it sounds. You aren’t changing your haircut in any way and you aren’t even taking length off of your hair. You are simply cutting the split ends off of your hair, in order to keep your hair healthy and let you go a few extra weeks between haircuts. Let’s face it, most people drag the weeks between haircuts anyway, so why not have the tools you need to keep your hair healthy between them rather than getting to the cosmetologist with hair that is totally destroyed from split ends.

How to Cut Your Own Split Ends

By cutting your own split ends, you can go a little longer in between haircuts or just make sure that your hair is in tip top shape all of the time. Cutting my own split ends is really my biggest secret to having healthy, beautiful hair! And guess what? It isn’t hard to do at all! In fact, it is easy enough that any of you can do it! All you need is a comb and a pair of scissors. [Read more…]

Pretty Spring Tulip and Moss Wreath

I love this gorgeous spring wreath! The moss and tulips together make such a perfect welcome for spring and a perfect welcome on the front door!

Spring Wreath Mossy Tulip Tutorial

I like the fresh Spring colors that it brings to my door! It was so easy to make this spring wreath, too! I didn’t take pictures while I made it because I made it at about midnight and the pictures would have been NO good, but I will tell you how I did it! [Read more…]

Pretty Big Bad Wolf Girl Costume

When my five year old saw the Pottery Barn Halloween catalog, she instantly fell in love with a deer costume. She mistakenly thought it was a wolf at first and that instantly inspired this year’s family Halloween costume theme of Red Riding Hood characters. But instead of being the Big Bad Wolf, we like to think of our wolf as the Pretty Nice Wolf.

This costume was incredibly easy to make. In fact, I was able to get it completely finished in less time than it takes for my 5 year old to go to kindergarten. It is a very close version of the Pottery Barn costume that she fell in love with, but I actually love the extra details we added to our costume a little more! The greatest part about it all is the fact that it is 100% no sew!

Red Riding Hood Family Halloween Costume

It is FINALLY time for my favorite series of posts of the entire year! Our family Halloween costume! I had no idea that this would become such a tradition for me, but I look forward to creating themed costumes for my family each and every year. They still get excited about it too, but I dread the day that I have teenagers who won’t dress up in a theme with me anymore. This year, we decided to be Little Red Riding Hood characters!

The best part about all of these costumes is that they are all NO SEW! I have said it once, I will say it a million times… sewing makes me swear. I know I have been given some talents but sewing just is not one of them! So rest assured that any costumes you see on my site aren’t going to require a sewing machine.  [Read more…]

DIY No Sew Ninja Turtle Costume for Girls!

It is officially the time of year that I look forward to each and every year. When I first started making my family costumes, I didn’t mean to create the no sew theme that I did. But I am sure glad that I didn’t start out by sewing every costume because that would have never lasted! If you are new around these parts, this is the 5th year that I have created a new sew costume for my daughter. We end up having a family theme with all of us, but I usually just share the tutorial for her costume. I will be sharing our entire family look later, but today I am excited to show you my very own little Ninja Turtle! Here is my DIY No Sew Ninja Turtle Costume for Girls!

Five Minute Hair: Headband Twists

Let’s face it, we are all busy. Most of us don’t have time to focus on our hair as long as we wish we could. It is important to have some great hairstyles that you can go to easily on the days that you are in a major hurry. This crossed over headband twist hairstyle is one of my favorites for those busy days.

This hairstyle looks even better on hair that has more dimension in it. I don’t really have highlights in my hair right now so it is a little harder to see, but on hair with highlights, or lighter hair in general, this hairstyle looks really awesome. Sometimes the twists are a little harder to see in darker hair, so sorry if you can’t see them as well! [Read more…]

Everyday Makeup Routine: YouTube Monday

This post contains some affiliate links.

Another YouTube Monday is upon us! I have been asked a lot about my everyday makeup routine. I toyed around with the idea of doing a blog post about it, but there are just too many steps to explain in text form. Videos require more effort and it took me a while, but I finally filmed my everyday makeup routine and it is here for your viewing pleasure!

I show you step by step of my makeup routine that I use almost everyday (and you get to hear a little girl who refused to take a nap in the background, BONUS!). I hope this helps answer any of your questions about my routine. Feel free to ask any questions that you might have. I will have a full list of all of the products that I used, with links to each of them under the video. Enjoy! [Read more…]

Kids’ Art Organization Display

My daughter loves pictures. She loves coloring pictures and keeping every, single one of them. She likes finding photos and stuffing them in every purse she owns, and sometimes she even sleeps with them. I find myself picking up her treasured pictures everywhere I go. Sometimes it gets a little out of hand and I have to throw a few away when she isn’t looking. She just is so proud of them, that I started feeling bad for throwing them away. I wanted a place for her to be able to show off her treasures, so I made a fun little board to organize her art and be able to display them for all to see.

This kids’ art organization display is one of the easiest projects I have ever taken on, and I already know it is going to make a serious impact on how organized her room feels. The fun thing about this is it can be totally customized for different kids and where you are going to be displaying their artwork. I was able to find this adorable wooden arrow at Michael’s and I just loved it, but if you had a certain theme in a room you wanted to stick with, you could do any shape you wanted. You could even use a scrap of wood. Here is what I used to create this display…

LDS Missionary Tag Christmas Ornament

I have been waiting a long time to be able to write this post. I have waited for over 2 years. My little brother is FINALLY home after serving an LDS mission in Bogota, Colombia. He has been back for just over a week! I wanted to be able to give him a little gift when he got home, but wanted it to just be a small thing since he is getting Christmas gifts from me so soon too. I decided to make him an LDS missionary tag Christmas ornament!

I absolutely love how this turned out! He was really appreciative of it and loved that it is a way for him to remember his time the he spent serving others in Colombia. On the front side, it looks just like his missionary tag did. On the back side…
