Whole30 While Breastfeeding FAQs

I did it! I finished Whole30 and can say that I survived during one of the hardest times for me to stay on track, breastfeeding! I don’t think there is a time in my life that I have craved more carbs and sugar than right after having my baby. My body thought it needed all of that in order to produce milk, but thankfully I was able to survive Whole30 without all of that junk. My milk production was definitely my number one topic of questions when I would say anything about doing Whole30, so I decided to dedicate an entire post to those frequently asked questions and hopefully they will help you decide if Whole30 is right for you while you are breastfeeding!

Pineapple Berry Smoothie Recipe and Health Journey

I know that I have talked a lot about my health/weight loss journey in the past. That is because it is a journey I have been on my entire life. My entire life I have struggled with my weight. I know that I am not huge. I haven’t ever been huge. I did get fairly heavy for my frame when I was in beauty school, but I was able to lose the freshman 25 and feel better about myself. That was nearly 7 years ago and I am at a place that I don’t feel great anymore. I am about 5 pounds heavier than I was when I lost all of my weight, which isn’t a bad thing considering how long it has been and that I have put on pregnancy weight and lost that baby weight since then too. The problem is that I just don’t feel good. It isn’t even how I look necessarily. It is how I feel. I don’t feel good because I haven’t been treating my body well.

I have tried living a healthier lifestyle many times. I do really well and then I fail. When I fail, I fail hard. It happens when life gets in the way. Usually when I have to go out of town. Which I have done a lot lately. That is why I am starting over again. Today! I am getting all geared up to start the 21 Day Fix Challenge starting on April 14th, but instead of waiting until then to make a change, I am working on kicking the sugar habit and drinking more water until then.

I am bringing you along on this health journey of mine! Once a week, I will be updating you on my progress! Blendtec has also decided to help support me in my journey and I am so grateful for them! The first recipe I am going to share with you is this YUMMY Pineapple Berry Smoothie. It is perfect for the times that I need something sweet. I have a serious sugar addiction and this smoothie helps sooth my craving without actually eating all of the sugar my body thinks it needs.

Pineapple Berry Smoothie
  • 2 cups of chopped pineapple
  • 1 6 oz can of pineapple juice
  • ½ cup frozen raspberries or strawberries
  • 1 cup Vanilla Almond Milk
  1. Put all of the ingredients in your blender and serve! If you have a Blendtec blender, use the frozen drink option on your blender. It makes for the perfect consistency for the smoothies.

The best part about a New Years coming is that it brings a fresh start! Every year, people set resolutions to live healthier and every year they fail at doing so. If you found yourself looking at the 2013 fashion trends wishing you could fit into those clothes, it is time to jump on board and make some healthy goals! I think it is important to set healthy goals, but I think it is even more important that you achieve them. I find that making one healthy change a day can make health goals seem a lot more attainable. Instead of jumping in with a completely new lifestyle, you are changing one thing a day so you can ease into a little more. I came up with 6 ways to jump start your healthy new years resolutions in 6 days and I hope they can help you reach your health goals!

 Day One- Take measurements- It isn’t all about what the scale says when it comes to being healthy. Healthy doesn’t mean you weight a certain number on the scale. Take starting measurements on day one and keep them in a safe place. Take measurements once a week to keep track of your progress. If you are dying to weigh yourself, only step on the scale once a week or even less if you can help it.

 Day Two- Make a water intake goal. This goal could be to drink less soda and more water or it could be a certain amount of water that you are wanting to drink each day. It is totally up to you and what you are wanting to accomplish. I personally try to drink three liters of water a day. It can be difficult sometimes, but I always feel good when I do it.

 Day Three- Buy new workout clothes. I am a firm believer in having exercise clothes that you are excited to wear. I think that if you are feeling cute when you workout, you will be more willing to push yourself. I feel a lot stronger when I wear stylish workout clothes instead of baggy, unattractive sweats that make me feel like a slob. I got myself this amazing Everlast jacket from Sears that will be perfect for working out during the cold months. It has thumb holes which are always nice to have in fitness apparel and has a pocket on the sleeve for my key, MP3 player, or whatever else I may need. I adore this jacket.  Day Four- Try a new exercise. It is important to switch up your exercise routine. Just as your body can become immune to different medications, your body can become kind of immune to exercise if you keep doing the same ones over and over again. Try new exercises to keep your body “on its toes” so to speak. It also keeps you from getting bored of the same thing time and time again.

 Day Five- Make food goals. Food is probably the most important part about living a healthy lifestyle. Make goals for how you eat. This could be the amount of calories you eat, how many fruit and vegetable servings you want to eat each day, or even a goal not to eat junk food. It is totally up to you and your personal goals!

 Day Six- Buy goal clothes. For the last day, reward yourself a little for making all of these great changes in your life and go buy some goal clothes that you want to fit into. If you aren’t trying to lose weight, just trying to be healthier, just buy something that fits and have it be a reward for when you go so many days of living healthier. I got myself this adorable Polo plaid top from Sears that will be great because it will work this winter and even into spring. The colors are perfect for both seasons and it is right on trend! Take a look at the 2013 fashion trends and the upcoming trends and get excited about the new clothes that you will be able to rock when you reach your health goals!

 All of these steps will help you get on the right track to meeting your health and fitness goals. Keep a positive attitude and keep your goal in mind! Remember why you are wanting to be healthy in the first place. For me, my greatest motivation to be healthy is to be a good example to my family. I want them to be healthy so we can live long lives together. Another motivator is the amount of conferences and events that I will be attending. I want to look my best in pictures and feel comfortable in my own skin. I know that if I am living a healthy lifestyle, I will feel great!

My Health Journey: Chapter 1

Living a healthy lifestyle has never been my strong suit. I LOVE candy! Don’t get me wrong, I love fruit and I find exercise really therapeutic, I have just never felt healthy. I often times end my days feeling sluggish, bloated, and just overall… YUCKY. That is why, when I read this post from my sweet friend Courtney, I knew I needed to get with it and jump on board. I decided then and there that I would start up with Lean Moms as part of their blogger program. Lean Moms is a diet and exercise program to help moms go from soft to sculpted. I have been doing it for 4 weeks now and I am starting to see some real results! My hard work is finally beginning to pay off. I am not quite ready to show off before and after pictures, but little by little, I am getting there! So far, I have lost 2.4 lbs and lost 2.5 inches overall. I love the feeling that my muscles are sore because I know that I am working them! Here are a few of my victories that I can celebrate…

1. I started a health journey! That itself is something worth celebrating! This is me on the first day…

2. I am trying foods I NEVER would have tried before. I am not typically adventurous at all with food, but I committed to trying all of these foods so that I know what I actually do like! Most of the time, I do like it! If I don’t like it, I adapt it so that I like it a little more. For me, I want this journey to be something that will stick, not just a diet that fades away.

3. I force myself to wake up early. I am typically such a night owl! I am not a morning person, but I have been waking up in the mornings to go to the gym before life really has to start. It has been a really good thing for me.

4. I feel confident at the gym. This is 100% because of the Lean Moms program. She tells you exactly what to do and what to expect at the gym. I love being prepared and knowing exactly what I am supposed to be doing at the gym each day. While I am lifting weights with all of the meat heads, I can feel totally confident in my abilities.

5. I get some me time. The gym is a great place for a little me time. I can listen to MY music, work at MY pace, and just be. It really is therapeutic. Especially the music part. Music was such a huge part of my life before I got married, even after I got married, but slowly it started to disappear. It has been fun to gain interest in it again and rediscover some of my music.

Some of the songs/artists that I love listening to right now are Katy Perry-Roar (best song ever!), Ke$ha-Crazy Kids, Imagine Dragons, MGMT, Ghostland Observatory, and Good Charlotte. I would love to hear what you enjoy listening to while you work out!

I will be updating you as this journey continues. I am excited to start shaving off more of this pounds and hitting more of my goals!
