Back to School Clothes: Choosing Quality Pieces

This post is brought to you by Abercrombie Kids. While this was a sponsored opportunity, all content and opinions expressed here are my own.

If I have learned one important lesson about children’s clothes, it’s that choosing quality pieces is so important! Kids can be really hard on their clothes and if the clothes aren’t made to last, they aren’t going to last. If I am going to be spending my hard earned money on back to school clothes, I want them to make it through the school year. This has become even more important to me since having a second daughter. I know that any clothes that last through the first one can be passed down to the second one. As my younger daughter has grown into more clothes of her sister’s, you can definitely tell what items were made to stand the test of time and which ones were a total waste of money. That is why we did our back to school shopping at Abercrombie Kids this year. The jeans at Abercrombie Kids are super high quality and I know they’ll make it through the years.

How to Dress for a Music Festival (Tips from a Concert Junky)

I have seen more concerts than I can even count. I love them! I love the experience of seeing someone’s raw talent live, while taking in all of the atmosphere of each concert and venue. It has been a passion of mine since I was 14 years old. I went to my very first music festival the summer after my freshman year and it totally opened my eyes up to a world that I instantly fell in love with.

At my first music festival, I had no idea how to dress. It was in the middle of the summer and I wore pants, a tank top, and white shoes. So many bad choices! I quickly learned that my legs were way too hot in full length pants and that my white shoes weren’t going to be white when I left at the end of the day.

As I went to more and more concerts and music festivals, I became a little smarter. I am going to share a few of my music festival dressing tips that I have learned over the last MANY concert going years.

This post is sponsored by Payless ShoeSource. All thoughts and opinions are my own. When I was growing up, I would get a new Easter outfit to wear each year. It was something I looked forward to every year. I knew that I wanted to continue that tradition for my own family and it has quickly become a favorite part of each year! I always am sure to shop smart and get items that we can wear all Spring season.

Grateful: A Tribute

(affiliate links included)

I have been thinking about gratitude a lot lately. When November rolls around, it seems to be the topic on a lot of people’s minds. But what does it mean to be grateful? Does it simply mean that we are glad we have someone or something in our lives? Is it simply just saying that you are grateful for something?

I think gratitude goes far beyond simply just saying that you are grateful for something. I think it involves humility and action. [Read more…]

When Life Gives You Lemons

Wednesday was going to be a busy day at our house. It was a busy day, just not exactly how we had planned. I had been working for a few days leading up until Wednesday to finish our Halloween costumes. We were going to have a family photo shoot so that I could share our costumes with you all next week. I also was going to take some photos in a darling long cardigan that I have been wearing non stop. We of course had school, errands, and other work related items on our agenda. The next thing I knew, all of those plans changed. When I went to pick up Harper from school, she wanted to show me her new trick. Her new trick was doing the monkey bars. I think she was a little overly excited because she started a little too quickly and almost as quickly as she was up on the monkey bars, she was down. She fell straight on her back, with her arm behind her back. She started screaming instantly and I was sure she had just broken her arm.

I scooped her up and ran her into our van and drove home, right down the street to ask Dave for his opinion and it wasn’t 30 seconds later that we were heading to the doctor’s office. We went to our family doctor who took x-rays and confirmed my suspicions… broken wrist and elbow! We were sent straight to the orthopedic surgeon where there were more x-rays and a lot more tears. Finally, there was a little relief when Harper finally got a splint put on.

As we were driving home, I looked in my rear view mirror and looked at my little girl who was sleeping in her booster seat. She looked exhausted. Suddenly all of those missed errands, unanswered emails, and unfinished business didn’t matter anymore. None of our plans had worked the way we had “planned”, but that was okay.

Being a mom

So instead of the beautiful planned, staged, and styled photos that I had planned to take of my new favorite Cents of Style cardigan, I will show you how I have been wearing it these past two days. Big sister won’t let us cuddle her because she is in too much pain, but we play on the couch and on the floor next to her, so she doesn’t feel like she is all alone.  [Read more…]

Current Favorite Shoes I’m Wearing Non Stop

I am always curious what people’s current favorites are. You can be totally obsessed with something and then it starts to change and turn into something else. So before my current favorites change, I wanted to share 4 pairs of shoes that have been on constant repeat lately. Warning, if you don’t want to feel like you ABSOLUTELY need another (or another four) pairs of shoes, don’t continue reading because I know that is what is going to happen!

Finding the Good in Unlikely Places

What does it mean to be good? That is something I thought about recently, when Cents of Style asked me to feature their Be the Good “Fashion Story Friday”. I thought long and hard about it and decided to do the unthinkable… Go back to my middle school.

I decided that my middle school was the perfect place to take photos for this shirt because middle school was honestly where I learned the most about being good. It wasn’t because middle school was the best two years of my life though. It was because I experienced some of my lowest of lows while standing in this very building. [Read more…]

It’s Important to Be Nice: Be Kind Outfit

This post contains affiliate links.

I remember my mom teaching me from a very young age, just how important it was to be nice. I vividly remember my mom taking a friend home from a play date because I wasn’t treating my friend nicely. I remember standing in the garage, screaming in tears as I watched my mom drive away to take my friend home. I will never forget that moment, but it taught me a very valuable lesson that day. It is important to be nice!

Be kind shirt from Cents of Style on www.girllovesglam.com

I absolutely adore the “Be series” shirts that Cents of Style offers. They are full of positive affirmations, like this Be Kind shirt. For me, this shirt is the most relevant for the phase of life that I am in. If there is absolutely nothing else that I could teach my daughters, I want them to be taught that it is important to be kind. Being nice to people doesn’t mean that you get walked all over. Some of the most kind people I know are also some of the strongest people I know!  [Read more…]
