Leaf Covered Pumpkin Fall Decor

It’s Thursday! Time for another Throwback Thursday, blog post edition. Today features one of the easiest tutorials I have ever posted on my site. This leaf covered pumpkin fall decor is not only easy to create, but it is down right adorable too. I love that it can be used both as Halloween and Fall decor. I don’t have to pack it away once Halloween is over. I really want to find different varieties of leaves and pumpkins to add to my collection as well!

Easy Bright Confetti Pumpkins Halloween Decor

I have realized as I decorate for holidays that I really like non traditional holiday decor. If there are Halloween decorations in a store that are made with colors besides just orange and black, I always find myself gravitated to them. I love the different perspective that non traditional colors can bring to a holiday. This year is the first year that I have had the opportunity to decorate for Halloween in our current home because we moved almost exactly a year ago and the last thing I was about to do was decorate for Halloween when I was just trying to get my life out of boxes. It has been really fun to decorate this year and to take out old decor that I forgot that I even owned! One spot in my house that I knew I wouldn’t have decor for was my coffee table. We have a tray that goes on there that usually has succulents in it but I wanted something a little more festive for Halloween. I knew that I didn’t want it to be totally traditional because my living room is such a bright and cheery space.

The perfect solution was to make these adorable confetti pumpkins!

I love how much color these pumpkins bring to my Halloween decor but I think the best part about these is the fact that they are INSANELY easy to make! They are so easy to make, my four year old helped me with most of it! [Read more…]

Mermaid Inspired Little Girl Bathroom

After we moved about a year ago, I moved over all of the decorations that we had used in our little girl bathroom from before and put them in the new bathroom. The problem was that it just didn’t look nearly as cute as it did before. The new bathroom is a little larger and just didn’t look great after I decorated it. It was one room that really bothered me. It is silly that a little girl’s bathroom could bother me that much, but I have been dying to give it a makeover. So when the opportunity came to be a part of a competition for Expressions Vinyl, I took it as a chance to makeover the bathroom that has been driving me nuts! We turned this bathroom into the room where under the sea dreams can come true… a mermaid inspired little girl bathroom!

It is safe to say that we are both completely obsessed with how it all came together. Before I go into all of the details, I am going to give a shameless plug to go vote for me and enter the giveaway from Expressions Vinyl! Vote for #6! Making a Rental House a Home

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of CORT. All opinions are 100% mine.

I get a lot of comments and emails from readers who are discouraged about taking on a room design project because they are renting. I love it when someone emails me with that dilemma because that also means that they saw that I have been able to overcome the renter dilemma and create rooms that really do feel like our own.

When we first started renting at our townhouse, I was also discouraged. I was discouraged about the fact that I couldn’t paint the walls, refinish the cabinets, replace the flooring, etc. I will admit that I was stuck in that phase longer than I care to admit. One day it finally clicked. Just because I was renting that place didn’t mean I needed to treat it that way. I could make that house my home. That attitude has continued as we moved again to another rental home. I didn’t waste any time when we moved here because I wanted to create a home right away.

There are definitely some tips that I have for creating an awesome space without investing too much money or leaving too big of a footprint behind when you are renting.

When decorating, use picture hanging strips for every item that you possibly can when you are hanging things up. I love that they don’t leave behind any trace of it being there when it is time to take it all down. If you are hanging something up that would require an anchor, use a specialty hook nail that only leaves behind a nail hole but hooks in through the wall to be able to hold the weight that an anchor would. You don’t want to put too many large holes in a rental house wall, so these tips are vital.

Adding Color to a Space (without going overboard)

Color scares a lot of people. I am not afraid to admit that I was totally afraid of color for a long time. I grew up loving color and I think that my brightly colored bedrooms may have scared me for life as an adult because too much color would scare me like crazy! Thankfully neutral rooms are in style because I rocked that (and however else my mom would help me decorate) for a long time. Over the years, I came into my own style and realized that color isn’t as scary as I had originally thought. You don’t have to commit to painting an entire wall a bright color in order to introduce a good amount of color into a room.

Office Reveal: Kate Spade Bow Inspired

Another move brings on another office space to design. I really missed leaving my old office. It was by far my favorite room in our townhouse, but I was excited to design another space in a new house. I wanted it to still feel like my old office in some ways, but a new space at the same time. I have always been in love with the Kate Spade bow print and wanted to use that as my inspiration for my office.

Bright and Happy Little Girl Bedroom Reveal

Ever since we moved, I have wanted to tackle the project of decorating my daughter’s room and it just kept not happening. It is so unlike me to be living somewhere for 6 months now and not have almost every room decorated by now. Thankfully, I had a very persistent 4 year old who reminded me (often) that I needed to decorate her room! It is finally finished and it is now my favorite room in the whole house! We are renting the house that we are in, but I think it is important to make every house we live in feel like home.
