Frozen Elsa and Anna DIY Vinyl Cups

Frozen Elsa and Anna DIY Vinyl Cups are so easy to make!

DIY Frozen Cups on www.girllovesglam.com

You may remember my post about my Disney Princess cups I made. I have really loved those cups, but I kept getting requests for Frozen characters. Can I let you in on a little secret? That Disney princess cup project was something I did in early 2013, before any of us knew Anna and Elsa! After I started getting requests for Frozen cups, I knew I needed to make an Anna and Elsa to join the rest of the Disney Princess cup gang.

These are both pretty darn easy to make. I didn’t use any vinyl cutters for these because I wanted them to be something that ANYONE could make!

Here is what I used to make these… [Read more…]

Organization Board Family Command Center

In March 2012, I made an organization board to help keep my family in order. I made it with a baby strapped to my chest and decided to put it on my blog that I had just quit my day job for. Three months earlier, I had decided to take the plunge and be a full time blogger… at the exact same time as I had my first child. Interesting timing, right? Well, that little organization board tutorial went VIRAL! I had no idea what was going on. I just suddenly was getting hundreds of comments, emails, and my life was completely changed. That post is still one of my top traffic sources to this day, but I cringe every time I see it pinned on Pinterest, which is over 500k times… that is a lot of cringing! The lighting was terrible and I am SO over chevron print and the colors aren’t exactly my style anymore. You can see the full tutorial for my first organization board, here.

Organization board

I have wanted to change up the good ol’ organization board for a while now, but just have had ZERO motivation to do it. Once we moved, I decided to finally take on that project. I set my entire old board a side and started fresh! Ladies and gentlemen (for the one random dude who happens to come across this post), I present to you… The Organization Board Family Command Center version 2.0!

Ahhhhh… isn’t that so much better? I really wanted to bring in some natural elements with the stained wood, while keeping some funky features like the stripes and the metallics.

DIY Falling Lego Blocks Shirt & GIVEAWAY!

After seeing the Lego Movie, we officially caught Lego fever at our house. We already had plenty of Lego toys before seeing the movie, but as soon as we saw it, Harper couldn’t get enough of her Legos. To celebrate her new found love of Lego bricks, I decided to make her the cutest little t-shirt you have ever seen.

DIY Falling Lego Block Shirt on www.girllovesglam.com

I was inspired to make a shirt with falling Lego bricks because that is literally what it is like when you are playing Legos with a toddler. There are Legos EVERYWHERE! I feel like there are falling Lego bricks everywhere you look so I wanted to embrace that and create a fun design on her shirt like that too. Honestly, I had no idea how cool this shirt would turn out. My husband even wants one in his size. The best part? It is probably the easiest thing I have ever designed out of vinyl too! It is totally a beginner project.

My First House Swan Song

As the week starts, I am pretty overwhelmed with feelings about closing on our house. There will be a new family moving in this weekend. I really am a total basket of emotions inside. I feel happy that the right person walked through our house so quickly. I feel relieved to be leaving the stress of home ownership for a little while while we rent. I feel sad to be leaving my family behind in Idaho Falls. I feel heartbroken to leave the beautiful memories that we created as a family by becoming first time parents in that house. I feel torn to leave all of my work in that house.

I can’t help but think of that episode of Glee where they all sing their final swan songs to give a proper goodbye while representing themselves. I think it is only appropriate to do the same for my first-cutest-little-high maintenance-old-quirky house.

We bought this house in January 2011. It was old, quirky, and very brown. All but two of the rooms in the house were brown. Those rooms were dark green and what my husband liked to refer to as daycare blue. The paint colors weren’t our favorites, but we knew we could change them easily. I started with painting the daycare blue room a gorgeous celery green. It served as my craft room for less than a year before it was turned into our tiny little muchkin’s bedroom. We had one room painted and many, many more square feet to cover.

Easy Patriotic Star Leis and Giveaway!

Easy Patriotic Star Leis

I have never seen a little girl get more excited to see American flags around town than my daughter. She gets SO excited to see them. She calls them “flags with stars” and has to tell us every time she sees one. Little does she know that there is a holiday just around the corner that she will be able see more “flags with stars” than she could ever dream of. She has also recently become obsessed with dress up and jewelry so I decided to marry the two ideas and create a fun little patriotic star lei for her to wear on the 4th of July (and everyday before and after that because she is pretty much obsessed) using vinyl!

I chose vinyl because it is inexpensive, durable, and unlike the cheapo patriotic necklaces that get wet and then bleed color all over your shirt, the vinyl can handle a little water to them on a summer day too! I am excited to be teaming up with Expressions Vinyl as one of their monthly ambassadors to bring you fun projects like this one that will give you fresh ideas for you to do with their awesome vinyl! This is also a fun project because your kids can totally be involved! They are really quick and easy to make.

To make these necklaces, you will need…

Patriotic Necklace Supplies

*Vinyl in as many colors as you want on your necklaces

*Baker’s twine

*Electronic craft cutter

Patriotic Necklace Kid Craft

Cut stars out of each color using your electronic craft cutter. My stars are 2.5 inches each. Lay one star with the sticky side up and lay the piece of twine on top of it.

How to make a patriotic necklace

Take another piece of vinyl the same color and lay it over the top of the other star with the sticky sides touching each other.

Patriotic Necklace Tutorial

Repeat these steps until you have enough stars to cover the length you want your necklace to be.

DIY Patriotic Necklace

Tie the ends of the twine together to create your necklace and you are done!

These are so quick and easy to make, you can make them for your entire neighborhood so your kids and all of their friends can sport them at the parade together. They would love to make them too!

Make sure to check out THIS POST and THIS POST by the other two Expressions Vinyl ambassadors to get other great 4th of July ideas! To celebrate the beginning of our fun Expressions Vinyl Ambassador team, we are having a giveaway for a $75 gift card for Expressions Vinyl! To enter, use the Rafflecopter widget below. Good luck!

Now for the epic hair chalking DIY tutorial.

DIY Hair Chalking for the 4th of July

Here is what you need to chalk your hair…

*Chalk (chalk pastels from a craft store work best, but any chalk would work)

*Spray water bottle or soaking wet wash cloth

*Flat iron

*Hair gel

*Hair spray

How to add temporary hair color

First, soak the parts of your hair that you want to color. You can do this with either a wet wash cloth or a spray water bottle. You don’t have to get the entire piece of hair wet, just the part of the hair that you want to get colored.

Hair chalking how to tutorial

Now rub the chalk up and down on the wet part of your hair. Note that I took a picture using sidewalk chalk on my hair, but I ended up using chalk pastels instead. The sidewalk chalk didn’t come out as the right colors. The red was pink instead of being red when I used the sidewalk chalk. Rub each section of your hair with the color of chalk that you want that piece of hair to be. Let hair dry completely and put a little hair gel on over the color. Add more chalk to each strand and let it dry out again. If you don’t want the color to be as long lasting, don’t use the hair gel.

How to hair chalk at home

Flat iron each of color strands and spray them with hair spray. Now style them how you wish!
