Five Minute Face Using Drugstore Makeup

There is a lot of underrated drugstore makeup out there. I have been testing out different drugstore makeup items that are similar to high end makeup items that I already love. Some items worked better than others, but in the end I found some really great alternatives to the pricey items I was using before. To make the deal even sweeter, all of the items that I used on my five minute makeup look are included in the Kroger spend $15, save $5 (mix & match) sale they have right now. I got all of my beauty products at my local Smith’s Marketplace and was able to save on every item that I bought! This spend $15, save $5 deal is from 7/25-8/7, so hurry and take advantage of this offer while you can!

Burt’s Bees 28-Day Face Cleanse Results

I went on a 28 day face cleanse that I told you about in THIS post. It was the perfect way to add to my effort in being a healthier person in every way. I started using The Burt’s Bees Renewal product line for 28 days to cleanse my skin.

Before, my face wasn’t suffering from acne really, but my skin looked tired. It was very dry, my eyes looked droopy, and I just wasn’t that confident with the way my skin looked.

Video: Beauty Blogger’s Skin Routine

My skin routine has changed several times in my life and I am sure it will continue to evolve as I develop my knowledge of all things beauty and skincare, but I can honestly say that I love how my skin has been looking lately. Because of that, I want to share my skin routine with you. Maybe all of these products will be perfect for you and maybe none of them will be, but here is the beauty of my skin care routine. It is affordable! If I can find an inexpensive product that works well, I am not going to keep looking for a fancier product that would do the same thing. I am a cheapo! So with that being said, yes there are probably better products out there than the ones that I use. BUT for the price I am paying for my current skin routine, I am happy with the results!

Homemade All Natural Face Mask

I have weird skin. In professional terms, it is referred to as “combination skin”, but let’s be real honest and say that it is just weird. One minute I have sad dry skin. The next minute I have oily acne prone skin. The third minute (which is actually more like 10 seconds) I have nice baby smooth skin. That third minute (10 seconds) usually comes after I have treated my skin with something special, like a face mask. I always love the way my skin feels after I put a face mask on. My problem is remembering to use them! I try to come up with a mental schedule of when I need to use a face mask so that my face doesn’t have to suffer for so long in between treatments. My favorite face masks to use are homemade ones because I know exactly what I am putting on my skin. I like to know why I am putting each ingredient on there too so that if I have a certain problem with my skin, I can know what ingredient I need more or less of. I am going to share with you one of my favorite homemade face masks today!

In this face mask, I use oatmeal, honey, coconut oil, and lemon juice. If you really wanted to, you could put this face mask on your face and then eat it all. I don’t recommend it though… we might think you are weird. Here is why I use each of these ingredients.

Oatmeal- Oatmeal adds moisture to your skin and gives it a healthy glow.

Honey- Honey is also a great way to add moisture to your skin and brings out the gorgeous glow in your skin.

Coconut oil- Coconut oil is a natural conditioner. It helps get the moisture really deep into your skin.

Lemon juice- Lemon juice will help get rid of impurities and close your pores to help make your skin look nice and smooth.

Now to make your own face mask.

Homemade All Natural Face Mask
Author: McKenzie at Girl Loves Glam
  • 1/4 cup oatmeal
  • 1/2 Tbsp honey
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • lemon juice from one lemon
  1. Put ingredients in bowl and mix together with a hand mixer.

This recipe makes enough for about 3-5 facials. Put it on your face after you wash your face and let it sit for a few minutes. Keep it away from your eyes. The lemon juice can really hurt if it gets in your eyes! Wash it off of your face and your skin will feel fantastic!

My Makeup Dreams Came True

Makeup is such a huge part of my life. It always has been. I wasn’t allowed to wear makeup until I was 12 years old, but I wanted to wear it so badly before then that I would sneak and find eyeshadow samples in magazines and put them on when I got to school. There are probably far worse things that I could have been sneaking, but I felt like I was being quite rebellious as I wiped on that light blue eyeshadow onto my eyelids as a 6th grader. I now look at my daughter and see the role that makeup is already having in her life. Although she doesn’t wear makeup yet, her favorite thing to do is get out her little makeup kit I made full of old makeup brushes, lip gloss, and pretend eyeshadow and put on her makeup while I apply my makeup each day. I appreciate those little moments that we get to share together each day while we do our makeup together. I realize how much she really looks up to me as she watches my every move and does exactly what I do too. She likes to ask exactly what I am doing and she will repeat the steps as she does it too. She had lots of questions when I started using something new in my makeup routine. She got used to it quickly when I started using it everyday. It is a good thing she got used to it, because this product is here to stay in my makeup routine!

BareMinerals BareSkin Foundation

I finally found the perfect foundation for my skin. My poor skin has gone through a lot lately. I have had breakouts galore! Did you know that your pH levels change every 7 years? That is why you need to switch up the makeup you use, the medicine you take, and the different lotions you put on every once and a while because your body is always changing! I have experienced that first hand lately. My breakouts have been much worse than they ever were in middle school. I realized that a lot of it was because I was also trying to find the perfect liquid foundation. My skin didn’t like any of the foundations I was trying.

I used to use the bareMinerals mineral powder foundation all of the time, but decided that I needed something with a little more coverage. That is why when I was approached by bareMinerals to try out their new bareMinerals bareSkin Serum Foundation, I knew I needed to team up with them!  I knew I needed to get my hands on it!

BareMinerals BareSkin Liquid Foundation

This foundation is amazing. They researched for 20 years before releasing a liquid foundation because they knew that most liquid foundations were full of harsh chemicals they didn’t want to include in their product. They finally came up with the perfect formulation and it is a match made in heaven for my skin. To use it, you shake up the bottle really well and put a few dots in the center of the brush. It only takes about 5 drops of foundation to cover my entire face with full coverage. This foundation has incredible coverage! I have been really impressed with how easy it is to blend it into my skin too. I don’t feel like it rubs right off of my face either.

BareMinerals Pure Liquid Foundation

Although my skin is still trying to get over the major breakouts I suffered through, you can’t even tell that I ever had them when I wear this makeup. An added bonus too is that it has SPF so I don’t have to worry about adding another step to my makeup routine while I am trying to wrestle a 2 year old who is trying to get into all of my makeup too!

This post was brought to you by bareMinerals. I was compensated for this post, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
