It has been party central at our house for the last few weeks. Just when Christmas and New Years is over, it turns into birthday season around these parts! The first birthday of the season this year was the two year old birthday! For some reason, I think the rest of the parties after this will be less than a fraction of how epic this party was. I guess that’s what we get as we turn to adulthood!

While I was in the beginning stages of planning, I couldn’t decide what theme to really go with because this two year old loves so many different things! I was almost certain we would need an Elmo, Jake and the Neverland Pirates, Sophia the First, La La Loopsy, Mickey Mouse party! I decided to go ahead with the Sesame Street theme because Elmo really was her first love. I didn’t have much time to plan her party and thought I would be able to work with primary colors the easiest.

Sesame Street 2nd Birthday Party

I started hunting for the perfect set of Sesame Street printables that I could use for the party and absolutely fell in love with the designs of Mimi’s Dollhouse! They seemed more realistic than any other Sesame Street printables that I could find!

Elmo Cupcake Toppers

She has thought of absolutely every detail with her printables. I used only a fraction of what she had offered in her Sesame Street Party Collection. She has everything from invitations, to banners, to party circles, to thank you cards, welcome signs, tented labels, straw flags, etc. When I say she has thought of everything, I mean it!

We decided to have a Sesame Street PJ Breakfast Party instead of a typical birthday party because it was on a Saturday and we wanted people to be able to get on with their day and to still be able to spend some time celebrating with us. It was a huge success! I couldn’t believe how many moms expressed their gratitude for having the party at 10 am! We served Elmo pancakes, yogurt, juice, muffins, and eggs. There was something for every eater there!

Now for a photo journey through the party.

This next photo is probably my favorite decoration of all of them, and ironically, it was probably the easiest too! I got some tissue paper party fan decorations and put eyes on them to create simple Sesame Street characters. I chose to stick with Elmo and Cookie Monster because they are the birthday girl’s favorites!  You can get some of these here!

I cut out a giant red Elmo with butcher paper and we played pin the nose on Elmo too. It was the perfect little game for toddlers.

After the partying was all said and done, it was fun to just sit back and enjoy all of the Elmo goodness with my newly turned two year old.

If you are planning any sort of party coming up, you HAVE to check out Mimi’s Dollhouse! Her prices are totally reasonable and you won’t find the quality that she offers anywhere else!

Check out her website HERE or like her on Facebook HERE.

The files for the printables were complimentary, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Dave is having a birthday!

The holiday season doesn’t end on January 1st each year like most people’s holiday season does. That is just the middle of holiday season for us! We have tons of birthdays that happen at the beginning of the year so it is party time over here! Sunday is a very special person’s birthday. My one and only… Dave! He is turning 26! I know that that is considered still young, but that seems so old to me! He was 20 years old when I met him. We have grown up so much!
These pictures were taken on our first “date”. We had hung out a few times, but these pictures were taken when I took Dave to a work Christmas party. It was the first time I introduced him to some of my friends.
We have changed so much! Check out my purple asymmetrical bangs (I miss them!) and Dave’s steps in his eyebrow.
This guy is just the best. I am so grateful to have him in my life. He is the best father that Harper could ever have. He is so patient and sweet with her.
He is so good to me and is really patient with me. I am pretty crazy about organization and cleaning sometimes and he is always so patient with my craziness. He is an incredible 6th grade teacher, teacher of teachers, and social media guru.
Please send him the birthday love! He so deserves it!
Happy, Happy Birthday!

One Year Old Birthday Party Highlights!

I feel like I did a pretty good job of not going totally overboard on the birthday party I hosted last week. I love seeing pictures of some of the sometimes outrageous birthday parties that kids have, but I decided that for us, this year, we would go somewhat simple. I am so glad I did! Not only was I excited with how it all looked, but I didn’t spend hours slaving away for the party and I didn’t feel like everything had to be perfect all of the time during the party! Here are a few pictures from the big day…
birthday printable
I made an easy printable by typing up the Birthday Song and using different fonts for each line.
birthday banner
I was excited that I got to use my no sew birthday banner again too!
birthday paper streamers
These paper streamers were SO easy to make. I used this tutorial to make them.
Don’t mind the leftover Christmas candy, but it was a good way to get rid of some of it! I still love my balloon wreath so much. It was worth the pain and time!
I printed off pictures from each month of the first year and put them up on the mirror. It was really fun to laugh with the party goers about when Harper’s high calorie formula really started to kick in.
I made my “Let’s Party” banner a while ago and never made a tutorial for it. It is made from wooden banner pieces that I bought from Pick Your Plum. I love it because I can put it up for any type of party!

Happy Birthday Harper!

I can’t believe it is already this time. The birthday party isn’t going to be too over the top this year, mostly because I think I was in complete denial that this day was already coming so fast! I can’t believe my baby girl is already 1! Here is a look back at her first year.
January- She joined the family on January 4th by surprise! I had been on bed rest when suddenly my water broke. She came 4 weeks early and got to spend 11 days in the NICU. Those were some of the hardest days of my life, but I am so so grateful for those nurses who worked to get her healthy enough to come home with us. She weighed just 5 lbs 3 oz when she was born and was 4 lbs 11 oz when we took her home. I knew she was small, but looking back, I can’t believe just how small she was!
February- Celebrated her first Valentine’s Day! Still so tiny, but I felt like she was so big!
March- Holding up her head!
April- First Easter. Starting to fill out a little bit.
May- Blessing day. What a special day that was with our friends and family. Hair loss. Our bald little baby!
June- First airplane ride to Las Vegas. The cheeks are beginning to arrive!
July- First parade and 4th of July celebrations.
August- Wearing her Nike Dunks. Welcoming all of the mooshy gooshiness that we love to squeeze and kiss daily.
September- The hair starts to make its return. The rolls just keep adding on. Started some physical therapy to help her build strength so she can catch up a little.
October- First Halloween!
November- We dropped Uncle Carson off at the MTC to serve an LDS Mission in Bogota Colombia.
December- First Christmas! So much hair, so much chub, and finally crawling!
Happy Birthday, sweet little girl! You make my days so much brighter. I love you!

Sending my Happy Birthday wishes

Do they celebrate birthdays in heaven? Celebrating every year for eternity?

dave mckenzie (134)

Wishing a very, Happy Birthday to my father in law, David. He would be 48 this year. We miss him everyday. I know that he is finally able to be free from his mortal body and is able to run and play with our future children up there. The picture of us at the wedding is one of my favorites. It reminds me of seeing you in the temple with my David and I. That was such a special moment.

Dave was the most intelligent man I have ever met. He could trick anyone while playing cards, and could tell the best stories.

Big David and Little David were quite the pair. Dave misses his dad so much, but I know that they will be reunited one day.

My birthday wish to you today, Big Dave, is for those Runnin’ Utes of yours to beat USC in their first Pac 12 game. I know you will be helping them out. If the Utes aren’t playing too hot (let’s be honest, our QB isn’t our favorite), my wish to you is that you can watch the game with our future babies and you can teach them to love those red wearing Utah players too.

Happy Birthday, Big Dave!
