Giving Children Our Time: Light the World with Service

The holiday season can bring a lot of chaos into our lives. When there are so many events and shopping that happens in such a short amount of time, it can be hard to lose sight of what is truly important this holiday season. I love the reminder I received when I watched this video about bringing light to the world by serving others. This holiday season can also be the perfect opportunity to serve. To learn more visit

I am a member of the LDS church. All of the leadership positions are volunteer positions that we are called and asked to do. I have two callings. I teach the 4 year old children each Sunday and I am part of a group who is planning girls’ camp for all of the girls ages 12-17 in our area. We call it stake girls’ camp. I am specifically in charge of the older girls in the group who will be helping with several responsibilities at camp. They are called Youth Camp Leaders. We had a big kick off party for the YCL’s so they could get caught up on what our theme is for the year, what the responsibilities will be, and what to expect this year.

The event was a lot of fun! We got all of the YCL’s to come to the church, where we had pulled all of the couches and chairs from the lobby of the church and put them in the gym with several bean bag chairs so that it would feel like a cozy sleepover. The event went from 6 pm until 11:30 pm. We fed them homemade Chinese food, they played a group game to get them comfortable, and then we had them settle into their seats to introduce the theme. This year, our theme is a superhero theme. I am not in charge of the theme, so I can’t remember all of the details with the theme. There is a great scripture about the power of Christ that they are using to go along with the theme. The power of Christ is the super power that they are using the superhero theme with.

We wanted to tie in that theme with our kick off party, so we invited inspirational women to come and speak to the girls. We introduced these women as everyday superheroes. We told them we wanted them to go everyday like they have a pretend superhero mask on to be an everyday superhero and to also look for the examples of everyday superheroes all around them. We gave them necklaces with glasses on them to represent their superhero masks and I made a little printable to go along with it.

A Personal Message for You

General Conference

It is one of the best times of the year. It happens twice a year. General Conference is on Saturday and Sunday. General Conference brings such peace into my home and into my heart as I listen to the inspired messages that are shared. If you don’t know what General Conference is, it is a time that the leaders of the LDS church speak to the world with messages to help inspire us and invite us to come unto Christ. Everyone is invited to listen to General Conference. You can find it online on or on TV if you live in Southeast Idaho or Utah.

“There are messages in each general conference given as a gift and a blessing from heaven specifically for our personal life situations” -President Dieter F. Uchtdorf

I can’t tell you how many of my troubles have been answered because of the messages given during General Conference. I am so grateful for the opportunity to listen to these uplifting messages next weekend. I invite you to watch/listen to these messages too.

31 Days of Summer Fun series on #activity #fashion #summer

Today, I get to share a tutorial with you as part of the Summer Fun series! I wanted to share a fun little game that is a great Sunday activity for families to do after church!

Church Lesson Pictionary family activity at #game #family

I love the game Pictionary! I always have. I haven’t ever been a great artist by any means, but I have always loved coloring, drawing, and playing guessing games so Pictionary naturally fits right into my interests! I am Mormon. Sundays are treated more sacred than other days of the week for us. We don’t go shopping or go out to movies with our friends, we observe the Sabbath by spending time with our families and resting in observance of that special day each week. Sometimes it is hard to come up with things to do on Sundays when you just want to go out to the mall. That is why I decided to create Church Lesson Pictionary!

To play, gather your family around in your driveway and split into teams. Everyone thinks about a few different things that they learned at church. One person goes up at a time and starts drawing on the driveway with sidewalk chalk what they learned at church. Both teams start guessing what that person learned about at church! It is a great way to keep the lessons taught at church fresh in our memories and also teach others about what you learned at church so you can all be inspired and uplifted!

Some examples (These are all LDS themed, but could you can draw themes for whatever your faith is!)

By drawing a temple, you could have learned about… Temples, temple work, eternal families, temple marriage, marriage, our body is a temple, etc.

Temple Chalk art for Pictionary game

Drawing your family could mean… Eternal families, obey your mother and father, love at home, family proclamation, etc.

Eternal families Pictionary church game

Drawing the CTR shield… choose the right, keep the commandments, etc.

Choose The Right Sidewalk Chalk game

By drawing a baptism, it could mean… baptism, missionary work, repentance, being an example, etc.

Not only is this a great activity to help keep your mind on the lessons learned at church, but it is an awesome way to spend time outside with your family!

Why Are Your Favorite Bloggers Mormon?

As many of you know, in November, I drove to Provo, Utah with my family to drop my brother off at the Missionary Training Center (MTC). He will be gone until November 2014 (2 years!) serving a full time LDS mission in Bogota Colombia.
Here come the tears! I miss him so much. Why would anyone want to send out their child/sibling/friend to a far away place for 2 whole years? I am so proud of my brother for going, because he is spreading the word about our church. I am a Mormon. The Mormons belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Mormon missionaries are the guys that wear suits and are always with another missionary. They are called to serve missions all over the world. They serve the people of that area by spreading the word about the gospel and by acts of service.
So, why be a Mormon? Why are some of your favorite bloggers Mormon? What do Mormons believe? Why would anyone want to be Mormon? I am excited to be joining a really incredible group of bloggers who are sharing a little insight about our religion.
We are offering a free package for all of those who are interested in finding out the answers to those questions. The package includes a copy of the Book of Mormon and a packet with personal thoughts from some of your favorite bloggers including…

If you are interested in receiving this package from me, all you have to do is email me at with your mailing address and I will send you a package. Don’t worry, I won’t share your address with anyone, nor will I send the LDS missionaries to your house. I want to share my thoughts and feelings along with all of these other amazing women’s thoughts and feelings with you! No strings attached. Hopefully it can even answer some of your questions about our church.

I can honestly say that being a member of the LDS church is the entire foundation of my life. It is the reason I am who I am today. I know that God loves us all so much. It is really hard to begin to fathom how much he loves us. He sent his son, our Savior Jesus Christ to this earth for us and I know he loves us too. God loves each of us, no matter what current state our life is in. He loves us. He loves you.
I can’t begin to express how grateful I am for each of you. I had no idea where this little blog of mine would take me, nor do I know where it will take me in the future. What I do know, is that I am so thankful for each of you for supporting me and my blog. Thank you for letting me share this with you too. I really appreciate it.
For additional information, you can check out It is a great resource for people who are interested in learning more about our church. I love the “I am a Mormon” videos because it shows how diverse the members of our church really are (we’re talking rock stars, to pro snowboarders, to students).

While I will be leaving the comments section open on this post for the time being, please understand that this is a very personal subject and I would greatly appreciate your respect and kindness in your comments.
Thank you!
