Sally Hansen Nail Party!

It says it in my blog name, glam. I love glam! I love having a reason to get dolled up and I love getting dolled up with friends! I got to do just that when I hosted a Sally Hansen nail party! Can you think of anything more fun than getting together with a bunch of your favorite girls, watching a chick flick, reading magazines, and painting your nails?! I don’t think there is anything more fun than that!

Planning the party was almost as fun as having the party! I went to Walgreens and picked up some magazines, treats, and TONS of Sally Hansen nail products to try out! I was shocked at how much I saved when I signed up for balance rewards with Walgreens! It costs nothing to sign up, and it saved me a bunch of money! I am a fan of that! I was shocked to see how many different products Sally Hansen had to choose from too. There is really something for everyone, no matter what your style is. I grabbed several different products and styles so that all of the ladies attending could find something they loved. To see my whole shopping experience, check out my album here.
I was sure to give my guests awesome goodie bags full of products that they could try at home too. The goodie bags also doubled at pretty cute party decor on the table.
The nail polish cookies were a huge hit! I wish I could take credit for making them, but I can’t! They were made by my extremely talented friend, Stacy! Adding little details really helped make the party special.
The night before the party, I tried out a few of the Sally Hansen products so that I could help the ladies when it was time for the party. I loved the Insta Gel System! As a cosmetologist, I have done my fair share of shellac nails, and this system works a lot like that! They don’t damage your nails and they are much faster and less expensive than salon shellac nails.
When it was time for the party, I did a little demo for the ladies so that they would know how to use all of their new products without having to read the instructions. They needed time to socialize, watch “Clueless”, read magazines, and paint their nails!
The ladies all loved their goodie bags and got right down to business making their hands and feet look fabulous! It was really fun to see all of the different styles that they chose. It really inspired me to try some of the looks that they tried. I loved all of the bright spring colors and prints. It really reminded me of a lot of the fashion that I have seen recently. Who doesn’t want their nails to be totally on trend too?!
The party was a huge success! It was really fun to check out #iheartmynailart on Instagram too to see my friends posting their nails on there and to see some of the other Sally Hansen parties happening. I can honestly say that I am a recent convert to non salon brand nail polish. I love the way these Sally Hansen products look and I love the prices even more! If you don’t have a Walgreens near you, you can always order Sally Hansen products online too! They are also doing an awesome promotion on the Insta Gel system that I loved! It is only $19.99 for the starter kit until 4/27! It is a really awesome deal! Be sure to follow Sally Hansen and Walgreens on Twitter to stay up to date with all of their promotions.

15 Winter Beauty and Style Tips

Do you remember the 15 Summer Beauty Tips? Well, I thought it was time for a little sequel! Some of you may not know this, but I am a cosmetologist by trade. I love beauty and fashion so here are a few winter beauty and style tips for this season!
#1 Use a good, quality conditioner- I can’t stress this enough. I am asked all of the time what people can do about their static filled hair during the winter. My first suggestion will always be to get a new conditioner. Your hair needs to start with a good base and work with it from there. There are tons of salon quality conditioners out there. I am not going to tell you what one to buy, but ANY salon quality moisture conditioner is going to be better than the crap you can buy at the grocery store.
#2 Invest in a fun pea coat- During the winter, many times when you are out and about, people don’t see your outfit because it is covered by a coat. I have a serious addiction to pea coats and I feel like they are a perfect way to show your style while still staying warm. Find yourself one that reflects your style and you will love it for many seasons to come!

#3 Mix Hard with Soft- Winter is a fun time of the year to really mix textures. Wearing a really soft textured scarf and combat boots or a cable knit sweater and a big, chunky necklace can be a great way to bring a new balance in your wardrobe.
#4 Don’t be afraid to go a little darker with makeup- Whether it is your eye shadow or your lipstick, don’t be afraid to go a little darker in the winter. The contrast of darker colors on winter white skin can be absolutely gorgeous. Use discretion when doing this though. You don’t want dark makeup overkill. Choose one area to make stand out a little more. For example, if you are doing darker makeup on your eyes, go with a nude lip.

#5 Jewel tones- Wearing jewel tones during the winter can make a major statement. They contrast against the gray winter sky and are typically very flattering on most skin tones. Jewel tones are very trendy right now and aren’t hard to find either, so it is an easy tip to follow!
#6 Faux fur- This is one trend that I haven’t participated in…YET. I am currently on the hunt to find the perfect faux fur vest that isn’t a million dollars. I have a secret crush on Rachel Zoe. She has been rocking the faux fur vest for years and I feel like the rest of the world is just cluing in. Wearing faux fur doesn’t have to be a vest though, it can be found all over the place! You could wear faux fur scarves, bags, boots, and even hats! They are really popular right now and look absolutely fabulous.

#7 Moisturize- I know I already touched on this a little bit, but this is how important I really think this is! The winter months do a major number on our bodies when it comes to moisture. Those months seem to suck out every last bit of moisture that our bodies have in them. It is so important to moisturize. Put on a good moisturizer before putting your makeup on. Lotion up after getting out of the shower and before going to bed. This will keep your skin looking and feeling great and hopefully prevent painful cracked skin!
#8 Big, chunky jewelry- During the winter months it can be really fun to layer, especially when it comes to jewelry. When it is summertime, you want to feel light and free, but when it comes to the winter months, it is fun to have those layers. Wearing statement jewelry pieces can be a perfect way to glam up any look and it is SO on trend right now. You can find statement jewelry pieces just about anywhere on any budget.

#8 Give your hair a break- If you are staying home one day, use that opportunity to give your hair a little R&R. Let your hair air dry and maybe even let it sit in some conditioner for a half hour while you are mopping your floors. Giving your hair a little break from the heat can make a big difference. Make sure you do it on a day you aren’t going anywhere though because you don’t want to go outside with wet hair during the winter!
#9 Wear scarves- Scarves are one accessory that you can’t get away with wearing all year long, so take advantage of the winter and wear them! There are so many different styles to choose from, they are made to fit every style and budget. Don’t feel like you have to wear them with your coat either. Scarves look great in your everyday wardrobe!

#10 Lipstick- I know I kind of touched on this earlier, but wear lipstick! Not only is it going to give your lips a little moisture, but it is going to put a pop of color on your face that nothing else can! I love wearing lipstick on days that I don’t have a lot of time because I can wear just mascara, eyeliner, and a great red lip to look totally done up!
#11 Boots, boots, boots- You can’t wear boots for long (ok maybe you can if you live in Idaho like me), so take advantage of the time that you can rock them! There are so many styles of boots to choose from too! I personally love the riding boots, combat boots, and hunter boots that are so popular right now. I may have just purchased myself a new pair of boots last week too! Boots are awesome because they are stylish AND practical during the winter to keep your tootsies nice and warm. One of the only times that you can justify spending money on shoes and your husband might just understand.

#12 Hats- Hats rock my world. Especially during the winter. Having naturally curly hair during the winter can suck. Big time. Having a cute hat to cover your head when it starts to snow, is a perfect safe haven for your freshly straightened hair. There are so many styles of hats right now that make it an easy trend to follow.
#13 Graphic Sweaters- I will admit, I am obsessed with graphic sweaters. I only own one. A polka dot one. I wish I owned more. Sweaters are a wintertime staple, so why not take them up a notch and get a super cute tribal print or striped one? I love the ones with animals or shapes on the fronts too. It is kind of a fashionable twist on the “ugly Christmas sweater”.

#15 Blazers, not just for job interviews- I have recently learned to LOVE blazers. They look good with just about everything. I love wearing them with everything from colored skinny jeans to pencil skirts. They are a great way to bring some shape to your midsection and to dress up any t shirt. They come in every color under the sun and have lots of patterns too! I highly recommend owning one (or 12) to bring some color into your winter wardrobe.
So how do you feel? Do you feel like you can tackle the rest of winter? For most of you, there isn’t much of winter left, but for a few of us living in frozen tundras, just because the calendar says winter comes to an end doesn’t mean the weather clues in, so I will be wearing my winter fashion until probably May! Here’s to staying warm and looking fabulous!

15 Summer Beauty Tips

There are 2 things that I especially adore. Summer and beauty. Well, one great thing about both of them, is that they go hand in hand. No matter what size or shape you are, you can be Summer beautiful! Here are my top 15 Summer beauty tips, in no particular order…

1. Wear color- Color is something that I am not afraid of, but recently I looked in my closet and realized that I am really lacking in color. Luckily, I was given a few pairs of colored skinny jeans for my birthday. That makes me feel colorful again. Just because you aren’t daring enough to wear colored skinny jeans, doesn’t mean that you should shy away from color. You don’t have to follow specific color rules either. Pick out what feels good to you. You will be noticed more, but who says that is a bad thing?
2. Waterproof mascara- This isn’t just for your trips to the pool or going to a Nicolas Sparks movie. Waterproof mascara is great for the Summer because you never know what your plans may turn out to be. Maybe your kids decide to have a spontaneous water fight. Do you really want the fear of having mascara drip down your cheeks stop you from the memories you could make with your kiddos? Or maybe it is more like in my latest case of my husband rolling down the window, just as a sprinkler hit my side of the car. Accident? I think not. It could have “ruined” my day, but waterproof mascara allowed me to laugh.
3. Get outside- I can’t stress this enough. I have made it a point to go walking with my little family (husband, baby, pup) a few times a week. Not only is this a great form of exercise, but it is now a treasured memory. There aren’t many months out of the year that you can play outside. Take advantage of that. One great bonus could be getting your booty a little tighter for the swimming suit!
4. Wear light accessories- I am an accessory girl. I think jewelry or a headband can add so much to an outfit. During the Summer, it is all about being cool and comfortable. Don’t over accessorize! Nothing is worse than wearing a thick, heavy necklace on a hot day. Maybe choose 1 or 2 great accessories that could really add to your outfit, and rock it. Don’t be afraid to mix different styles either. Case in point: My headband that was originally made for a Thanksgiving dress up day (I dressed as an Indian) and my necklace that was worn by my bridesmaids. Do those accessories have anything in common? No, but they work.
5. Wax- I know, I know. That is a banned word for a lot of people, but whether it be eyebrows, armpits, or legs, the pain is totally worth the gain. Does anybody else hate shaving and tweezing as much as I do? Get the pain over in a few quick rips and you are good for weeks! You will not regret it.
6. Deep Condition- Some people only think of hair, others have no idea what a deep condition is. Deep conditioning not only your hair, but your skin during the Summer is crucial! All of that swimming and sunshine feels great, but it dries out your skin and hair big time. You don’t need to do anything ultra fancy to deep condition. For your hair, use your favorite conditioner and put it in after you get out of the shower and your hair is damp. Clip your hair up and let it sit in the conditioner for as long as you have time for. It could be 5 minutes or an hour. Doing this weekly or monthly can drastically help your hair. As for skin, use an intensive moisture lotion day and night. Preferably right after the shower and right before bed. If you can handle it, sleep with socks on right after putting the lotion on.
7. Sun Dresses- Wear them! They are the easiest Summer style to wear. They add a little glam to your wardrobe, but are most likely going to be the most comfortable item in your closet. They make GREAT swimming suit cover ups too. I always feel cuter wearing a sun dress over my bathing suit, rather than board shorts.
8. Sunscreen- Duh. That should be the most important beauty item of the Summer. Is it usually? Nope. I rarely wear it, but I will be wearing it now! Spending 8 hours in the blazing sun did nasty things to my skin. Case in point: My nose. Makeup over a sunburn isn’t chic.
9. Dewy lips- What does this mean? It means, make your lips look a little wet. Don’t do this by licking your lips constantly, just buy a good lip gloss that does it for you. Wet looking lips are sexy lips.
10. Air dry your hair- Your hair will thank you a thousand times if you let it air dry once and a while. Now when I saw air dry, that does not mean it has to be 100% natural. Who’s hair looks good 100% natural? If yours does, I want to slap you. As for the rest of you, use product! This may take a little practice, but letting your hair air dry can look great, save you time, and protect your hair from split ends.
11. Lighter eyes- Take off all of that makeup you have been caking on all winter. Embrace your natural beauty. Wear lighter colors of eye shadow and less eyeliner. You will be an instant natural beauty.
12. Show your toes- There are few times a year that you can wear open toed shoes. Having painted toenails makes you feel cute. I promise you will feel 10x better if they are painted. If you want to try something new, go to a salon and get shellac polish. That stuff rocks. It stays on my toes for 4-6 weeks even when I swim!
13. Try wearing a hat- Baseball, floppy, or newsboy. It doesn’t matter. Hats are hot. I love wearing fedoras. They make me feel like I tried, without really trying at all. Be brave enough to wear a hat. They are Summer staples for me.
14. Wear colorful, comfortable shoes- Going along with the colorful clothing. Why not wear colorful shoes too? If your shoes have many colors, it may be easier to “match” but who says they have to? Fun colored shoes make a statement. Remember, summer isn’t enjoyable if your shoes are comfortable.
15. Cardigans- You may be thinking, cardigans? Now? Isn’t a cardigan a sweater? Yes. BUT just because it is summer, doesn’t mean that it will be warm all of the time. Be prepared with a cute summer cardigan for the chilly bonfires or late night baseball games.
Phew! We made it! Now go beautify your Summer!

What is Shellac?

When I am at the salon, I have a lot of people ask me, “What is Shellac?” and most of them feel really silly for asking. That is not a silly question at all! Shellac is a gel based polish that is cured under the UV light with every layer. On your fingernails, it usually lasts between 2-3 weeks and on your toes it can last for about 8 weeks! It is so shiny, and makes your nails feel harder. It isn’t damaging on your nails like acrylic, gel nails, or rock star toes. I have always just done Shellac on my toes. I finally got it done on my nails! I had my dear friend, Nellie give me a French polish. Pictures taken in dim light don’t do them justice at all!

They look and almost feel like acrylic nails. They are hard like them, but not so thick. I absolutely love them. I would 100% recommend getting this done. It makes me feel pretty without feeling as high maintenance as I do when I have acrylic nails. So in short terms, Shellac nails=totally worth it!
