Who’s that girl? Who’s that girl? It’s Kenz! I am obsessed with New Girl. I think every girl who watches that show somehow feels a connection to Zoey Deschanel’s character, Jessica Day. Inside we are all a little quirky and awkward just like Jess. Although Zoey Deschanel plays such an awkward character, there is nothing awkward about how absolutely gorgeous she is. She has the greatest style in and out of character in every show she is on. I always love her makeup, so I created a tutorial for a makeup look inspired by her.

Zoey Deschanel Inspired Makeup look on www.girllovesglam.com #shop #makeup

I always love the makeup that Zoey wears. I like that it isn’t totally polished and that it looks a little messy sometimes. That makes it more realistic. The two things that always stand out to me with Zoey Deschanel is her flawless, porcelain like skin and her gorgeous eyelashes that frame her blue eyes. I knew that teaming up with Rimmel for this look would be perfect because of their Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara and Stay Matte Foundation. Drugstore mascara usually gets a bad reputation, but I absolutely love the Rimmel Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara! It makes lashes fan out perfectly, while giving them plenty of volume too. Drugstore foundation has an even worse reputation. I can honestly say that the Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation was the first drugstore foundation that I have really loved! It totally perfected the flaws on my face, while still letting my face feel like it could breathe.

You can find both of those Rimmel products at Walmart, in the makeup section. Rimmel is also celebrating their 180 year anniversary and will be putting a $1 off coupon in the Sunday newspaper for each of these two products so make sure to grab your coupon before you head to Walmart to buy your makeup!

Now for the fun part. How YOU can create a Zoey Deschanel inspired makeup look of your own. You need…

Dip the brush in the gold nail polish and put dots in a line on your nail and move along down the nail. Do this on all of the mint colored nails. Next, dip the other paint brush in the mint nail polish and do one or two little stripes on your gold glitter polished nails.

All Natural Handmade Skin Exfoliant

I am trying to take better care of my skin. Sometimes I get a little lazy about my routines when it comes to my skin, but this year I am trying a lot harder to be better about washing my face and doing the extra things like exfoliating my skin. I told my friend who is an esthetician that I wanted to find a great skin exfoliant to use that wouldn’t make my skin burn. She recommended the greatest homemade skin exfoliant recipe that I am going to share with you today! (By the way, if you live in the Idaho Falls area, you have GOT to go to her for all of your skincare needs! Her name is Bailee and she works at Retreat Day Spa. You will NOT be disappointed!)

I love this exfoliant because it is made with items that you have in your house already!

All Natural Handmade Skin Exfoiliant

Here is what you will need…

Baking Soda

Water

homemade skin exfoliant

That is all you need! Isn’t that awesome? A box of baking soda costs less than $1! No more spending so much money on expensive exfoliants. This homemade skin exfoliant is also great because you have total control of how gritty it is. Depending on what your skin is like, you will  most likely want the grit to be different during different times of the year.

handmade exfoliant

Poor some of the baking soda into a small bowl. I don’t have an exact amount that I use. Baking soda is so inexpensive that I don’t worry about being careful about the amount that I use. I just make an educated guess of how much exfoliant I will need.

natural skin exfoliant

Get a small glass of water and start adding it slowly to the baking soda. The more water you add, the less gritty your exfoliant will be. I usually like a softer grit, so I add enough water to make the mixture kind of creamy. Mix the water and the baking soda together and you are done!

Rub the exfoliant on your face after you have washed your face. Rub it around in circular motions. Make sure to keep it away from your eyes. After you have rubbed it on your face, wipe it off with a wash cloth.  Your face will instantly feel softer! Don’t forget to moisturize after you exfoliate!

I recommend doing this about two times a week. Your skin will feel incredibly soft and healthy! If your skin is more damaged and you feel like you need to exfoliate more than two times a week, try doing it three times a week. I don’t recommend exfoliating more than that though. A lot of people may even be able to get away with exfoliating only once a  week too. Just try it out and do what you feel fits you and your skin type the best.

While you are taking such great care of your skin at home, try dying your hair at home while you are at it. Check out my tips for dying your hair at home too HERE!

Conversation Heart Inspired Nail Art

Conversation Heart Inspired Nail Art Tutorial

I love conversation hearts. I know there are the haters in the world who think they taste like flavored chalk (cough, cough, MY husband), but I love them! When I was looking at some advertisements that came in the mail, I saw a few pictures of conversation hearts and it got the wheels turning a little bit. What if I did some conversation heart inspired nail art?! I didn’t want anything overly flashy or too literal, just nail art inspired by my favorite Valentine’s Day treat.

Conversation Heart Nails

I love how they turned out! To create your own, you need…

Nail Polish Valentine Tutorial

*Five different pastel colored nail polishes

*Red outdoor vinyl

*vinyl cutter

*Clear top coat polish

Valentine Nail Tutorial

First, paint all of your nails. Do each nail a different color of your pastel polish, but keep both hands the same so it isn’t too busy. Make sure they are really dry before moving onto the next step.

DIY nail stickers

Cut out a few different conversation heart sayings out onto your vinyl. I chose to cut out enough for all of the nails and then see how I liked them on each nail to decide how many I wanted to keep on there. In the end, I chose to just put decals on two of the nails on each hand.

Conversation Heart Valentine Nail Art

Either use a weeding tool or transfer tape to place the letters onto your nails. Your nails will start looking like little conversation hearts!

Conversation Heart Nails

Paint the clear top coat polish over all of your nails and let them dry.

Now you have some fun conversation heart inspired nails for the big day of love!

Winter Essentials to Protect Your Natural Beauty

I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for Collective Bias and its advertiser. #WalgreensBeauty #CollectiveBias

Our hair, skin, teeth, and nails aren’t big fans of winter weather. The dry air can create serious damage to our bodies that we may not even be aware of. Because I live in Idaho and have to endure what feels like is an 8 month long winter, I have come to find some winter essentials that help me protect my natural beauty so that I don’t have to suffer the effects of the winter all year long!

My Winter Beauty Essentials #shop

I went to Walgreens and picked up the five beauty essentials that I can’t survive without during the winter and I am excited to share them with you!

1. Dry shampoo. I am a licensed cosmetologist and I still go for Suave dry shampoo. I have tried several different brands and Suave is my favorite kind and it is also the most inexpensive kind that I have used too! The reason why dry shampoo is so important during the winter? The air is so dry, that it is important that you do not wash your hair every day. By washing your hair, you are actually drying it out a little more each time. Try skipping a day or two and using dry shampoo on your roots on the days you don’t wash your hair.

2. Hand creme. If you suffer from painful, cracked hands during the winter, an intensive hand creme is going to be your answer. I really like the Eucerin Intensive Repair, but there are several brands to choose from. I like to get a smaller size so I can keep it in my purse.

Eucerin Intensive Therapy #shop

3. Firming night cream. I know that I have already said it, but I am going to say it again. The winter air is so dry! It is really hard on your skin. One of the best times to really give your skin an extra boost of moisture is at night. Use a firming night cream such as the Olay Night of Olay Firming Cream to give your face a boost of moisture while helping your skin firm up while you sleep! You can find this in the facial care section of Walgreens.

Olay Night Cream at Walgreens #shop

4. Teeth whitening strips. I know this might sound like a strange essential for winter, but I find that when my teeth are white, my face looks a lot more tan. Heaven knows I am anything but tan during the winter, so any help I can get is welcomed! I also think that when people are around the beautiful white snow, their teeth will look a lot more yellow than they do in the summer. When I use teeth whitening strips, I just buy the store brand 14 day kit like this one from Walgreens. They work surprisingly well!

5. Lip repair. Lips seem to suffer a lot during the winter. It is important to find some sort of lip repair that will protect your lips and will repair them from any damage that has already been done. I really like the Eucerin Aquaphor Lip Repair. It doesn’t have any strange taste and it makes my lips feel healthy and smooth.

Now I want to know. What are YOUR winter beauty essentials?

Robert Jones Beauty Academy

This post is sponsored by Robert Jones Beauty Academy. I am being compensated through the academy and in no other way. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

Words can’t even describe how excited I am to share this news with you today! Dreams really do come true!

A few months ago, I was given the opportunity to go listen to Robert Jones speak. If you don’t know who Robert Jones is, you are missing out. Just because you don’t know his name, doesn’t mean you haven’t seen his work. He is a celebrity makeup artist who has done makeup for celebrities like Selena Gomez and Cindy Crawford. He has also done the makeup for many makeup ads, especially mascara!

Robert Jones Beauty and Girl Loves Glam Collab

Robert was charming, funny, and crazy talented. He reminded all of us that it is okay to be a perfectionist! It is actually good to be a perfectionist. I also loved that he pointed out that it is beneficial to do your hair before doing your makeup. I am a strong believer in that! Don’t melt your makeup off with your hot tools, ladies!

Well, here is the exciting part! Robert Jones has started his very own Robert Jones Beauty Academy! Let me explain to you what that means. It means, that up until now, if you want to become a makeup artist, you were pretty much self taught. Many makeup artists have gone to special effects makeup school, cosmetology school, or gotten a degree in some sort of art. Robert Jones created an online course to teach people how to be makeup artists without having to go to school for something they aren’t interested in. It is amazing! You have to test out of each level in order to move up in the system, so you know you are becoming a real pro as you learn more. To attend the Robert Jones Beauty Academy, it is only $24.95 a month, or $299 a year (it is actually on a special for $249 right now)! Amazing, right? I am going to be starting as a student in his academy next month and I can’t wait to tell you all about my experience! I will keep you updated. If you are interested in becoming a makeup artist through the Robert Jones Beauty Academy, you can find more info HERE.

Robert Jones Beauty Makeup Kit

This is the makeup that Robert brought to teach one class. It was out of control amazing!

But what if you don’t want to be a makeup artist? What if you just want to learn how to do your own makeup? Robert Jones has an option for you too! He is offering 7 days of free lessons for real girls like you! Learn about your face shape, your eye shape, and how to customize your makeup to who you are! You can sign up for free, HERE.

Who’s excited to join me in my Robert Jones Beauty Academy journey?!

Black and Gold Glitter Burst Nail Art

Black and Gold Glitter Burst Nail Art

I absolutely love the black and gold trend right now. You can find it on handbags, clothing, home decor, and jewelry! It has become a total winter staple when it comes to styling outfits for me. Another fun way to bring that trend into your wardrobe is by painting your nails with black and gold. Having dressier looking nails is perfect for this time of year with all of the holiday parties and fun winter events there are. The greatest part about this nail art? It is easy! Nail art can often times be pretty tedious, time consuming, and hard. This glitter burst nail art is none of those! It won’t take you much longer than it would to just put a plain coat of polish on your nails.

Gold Burst Nail Art

Supplies:

Black fingernail polish

Gold glitter fingernail polish

Clear top coat

Paper towel

This could also be done with any other colors as well. Be as creative as you want!

Winter Nail Art Tutorial

First, paint your fingernails black. Two coats of polish usually looks the best.

Winter Glitter Nail Art

Put a dot of glitter nail polish down on the base of your fingernails. Only do this one hand at a time.

Glitter Burst Nails

Use the top coat to brush from the dot of glitter polish and brush up onto the rest of your nail. Wipe off polish in between swipes so the glitter polish doesn’t get all over the nail. Brush from the base out onto the entire nail so the glitter can spread to the rest of the nail. You want it to look like the glitter is bursting from the base of your nail.

Black and Gold Glitter Nail Art

Let the polish dry and top it off with a coat of clear top coat over the entire nail. Your nails will be looking sparkly, festive, and fierce!

Beauty Box 5: Beauty Product Review

I am excited about a new collaboration I have made with Beauty Box 5! They will be sending me a complimentary box each month that I can give honest to goodness reviews on. I will be reviewing all 5 of the products they send me each month and I will tell you what I honestly think about each of these beauty products and if I think you should purchase them for yourself! If you have never heard of Beauty Box 5, it is an awesome company! You pay $12 a month and they will send you a box with five different beauty products in it. The value is always way more than the $12 that you paid for the box and it is a great way to get to try new products out without a big investment! So, let’s get things started!

Beauty Box 5 November box review

I was really excited to receive my very first Beauty Box 5! This is what it came with and what I thought of each of them…

LA Fresh Facial Cleansing Wipes- These felt like any other facial cleansing wipe out there honestly. This brand claims to have more nutrients in their wipes, but a bigger package of these will cost you $20. I would stick with the cheapo wipes.

Model Co Illusion Nude Lip Liner- This lip liner is made to blend in with your skin a little more than your traditional lip liners. It is made to help you correct the shape of your lips and make them the shape you want them to be. So far, I have really liked this. I don’t use it for the shape correcting necessarily, but I have liked the nude color. I think it is a great color for the days that you are just wearing gloss. This lip liner is about $20 which I feel like is a pretty reasonable price because lip liners last quite a while.

Nubar Kristal Nail Polish- I don’t usually go for the sparkly nail polishes, but this polish is pretty awesome. It is the perfect top coat to use during the holiday season. It also stays on really well and makes your nails feel hard and healthy.

Toe separators- These are just the normal toe separators. Nothing too special other than they are sparkly!

Aveeno lotion- I was actually really impressed with this lotion. I felt like it added a lot of moisture to my skin without making it feel oily and gross. I would recommend this lotion for sure. Especially the smaller travel size to keep in your purse when you are in those emergency situations when your hands feel like they are about to crack and bleed while you are in the middle of the grocery store.

Well, that is it for this month! What do you think of this new collaboration? Are you excited to learn about more beauty products?

At Home Hair Coloring Tips and Tricks

I am so excited to tell you guys about a really neat opportunity I was given. I was able to throw a girl’s night out for some of my besties while we watched Project Runway, played a Fall trends bingo game, and tried out some of the Vidal Sassoon Pro Series products! I also got to try out the Vidal Sassoon Pro Series hair color on myself. As a licensed cosmetologist, I thought it would be fun if I did a video giving you my tips and tricks for hair coloring at home.

At Home Hair Coloring Tips and Tricks Straight from a Cosmetologist's Mouth on www.girllovesglam.com #beauty #hair #vidalsassoon

Now, for the the tips you should all learn before dying your hair at home!

The Vidal Sassoon Pro Series party was a blast! I went to Target to pick up all of the products we would need and treats to eat while we watched Project Runway.

Fall Hairspiration Party

Once the show was done, we spent some time trying out the Vidal Sassoon Pro Series products. I was SO impressed! I am typically a professional hair product only type of girl, so to see these products work as well as I did was a huge shocker for me! I love the smell of the Combing Cream. I have used it everyday since the party and love to get a little sniff of my hair throughout the day. I was really impressed with hairsprays too. They had just the right amount of hold, without making the hair feel stiff. I now understand why they call Vidal Sassoon Pro Series products… Salon Genius. Affordable for All! At the party, I taught the party guests how to do flat iron curls on short and long hair. They wanted to know how to make them more wavy and how to make them tighter.

Holly Before and After

Rachel Before and After

I had a blast teaching these ladies about Vidal Sassoon Pro Series products and I think we are all sold!

Vidal Sassoon Party Goers

Now for a better look at the hair color change I made! I got rid of the ombre that I had and went back to a brown that is pretty close to my natural color. I LOVE it! I was really surprised at how much the Vidal Sassoon Pro Series color mixing process was like professional hair color. It was really easy to apply and I am really happy with how the color turned out!

Vidal Sassoon Home Color Tips

What do you think? Do you like my color? Have you ever used Vidal Sassoon Pro Series products? What is your favorite?

Don’t forget to enter Vidal Sassoon’s Pin-it-to-win-it Sweepstakes! Contestants have a chance to win a $1,000 Target Gift Card! That could do some SERIOUS damage! Check out the details here.
