Brave and Beautiful

Brave and Beautiful

I am Brave and Beautiful – a beauty movement that is sweeping the globe. Colbie Caillat started it with her recent song and video called TRY. My blogging friend Megan of Brassy Apple wanted to push this movement along and invited women from all over to share what they looked like without make up and I joined in!! Colbie’s song says, “Take your make up off. Let your hair down… Look into the mirror at yourself, Do you like you? Cause I like you… “

Megan and her friend Cobi of Peacefrom6pieces have been the team behind this whole project. Their worldwide vision included creating their own video inspired by the song TRY. The talent of Robbins Creative made it possible for them to pull it off. You have to click play and see the beauty and bravery displayed and you might even recognize a few faces in there.

Me along with 101+ other blogging women from different backgrounds, religions, ethnicities, ages, shapes and sizes have decided to be Brave and Beautiful! You can join in this movement too by sharing what you look like without makeup on. You don’t need a blog either! Just tag your photo with #IamBraveAndBeautiful on Instgram and search the hashtag to see who else has joined in. ALSO, if you tag it with a second hashtag – #ColbieTRY we just might be able to get Colbie Caillat’s attention since she was the inspiration behind it all!

Are you brave and beautiful? I am, here I go!

Without…

No Makeup Beauty

Here are my thoughts on this whole “Brave and Beautiful” post all of us are doing…

Yes, I believe that we need to be comfortable with ourselves. Yes, I believe that means that you need to be comfortable with yourself without makeup. But, that doesn’t mean that wearing makeup makes you a bad person. It doesn’t make you conceited or vain necessarily. HELLO! I wrote a freaking book about makeup! Of course I love makeup! I believe there is a lot of good that comes from makeup.

If you are a longtime reader of mine, this isn’t the first picture you have seen of me without my makeup. I am comfortable with what I look like without makeup (even if I look like I am about 15 years old) and I have shared a few posts about the importance of letting your face take a makeup free break once and a while to let your skin clear up. I think those days are also good because it helps you focus on finding your self confidence in other places, besides in the makeup that you wear.

With that said, (hold on, let me get up on my soapbox here…) I think it is important to treat our bodies with kindness. For me, that is putting on makeup. I feel like by treating myself to getting my hair done, putting on makeup, or painting my nails, I can feel like a hot momma! Who doesn’t want to feel that way after dealing with two year old potty training poopy accidents all day?! I put on makeup for myself. I do my hair for myself. It is the “me time” I give myself each day and I feel so much better after I have done it. Do I love doing my makeup everyday? Heck no! I am no different than anyone else. Sometimes I would much rather forget all about it… Sometimes I do! I go about once a week without any makeup on. I believe that we are worth spending some time on ourselves.

I spoke at a conference called Pinner’s Conference last year. My class was all about easy makeup looks that busy women could use. While the entire focus of the class was on makeup, I wanted to remind everyone who came to the class that they were taking the time to do their makeup because they really were beautiful. They really were worth their own time. They really were special. I can’t even tell you how many women came up to me after the class thanking me for saying that. Many of them had mentioned how they had stopped wearing makeup because it felt silly to take time to do it when they had so many other things to be doing. I promise you, all of those other things will still be waiting when you are done. The 10 minutes you take to put on your makeup isn’t going to break your entire life. It might just make it.

Now I will get off of my soapbox… I am grateful to be a part of this fun experiment with all of these other amazing bloggers. I think it is really special when any number of women come together for one cause. This is especially the case when it comes to coming together to celebrate beauty and self confidence. Everyone is beautiful. We are all so different, how couldn’t we be?
