Business cards for the blog

Um, have I mentioned how friggin’ excited I am to go to the Snap! Conference next month? Ha! I’m sure some of you are getting a little sick of it, but I just can’t help it. I am so excited to learn from all of those incredibly talented people! I participated in a Snap! Twitter chat last week that was all about business cards and to be honest, it freaked me out royally. I realized that I had a lot that I needed to get done before the conference.

I sat my behind down, right then, and started designing my business cards. I’m sure that one day, I’ll look back and think, “Wow! My designing skills have come SO far since then!”, but until then, I’m pretty proud of my work! I have been learning a thing or two about Photoshop and I am loving the design of my business cards. You will only get a small peek into my design until the conference is over, because…

1. I don’t want anyone to copy me. I want to stand out.

2. I still may make a few tweaks before getting them printed.

3. I like being sneaky like that.

SO with that being said, here is your preview!

That is the back side. Now, don’t copy or judge me harshly. I pretty much am in love!

Don’t take your days for granted

Sunday morning was a wake up call for us. Dave woke up at 6 am to feed Harper and got very sick. He was either hovering over, or sitting on the potty all morning. It wasn’t a pretty sight. I sent a text message to my dad who was at church with a few doctors. I had him ask them if I should take Dave to an urgent care. He was vomiting blood. They said to take him there to be sure he wasn’t dehydrated. We packed up our diaper bag and headed to the urgent care. My mom met us there so she could take Harper. As soon as the people at the urgent care heard how sick Dave was, they sent us the the ER.

That was not where we expected to be on a Sunday afternoon at all! When the nurse took Dave’s vitals, she discovered that he was extremely dehydrated. She thought that he had been sick for days, not hours. They hooked him up to some IV’s for fluid, pain, and nausea, and we waited. And waited. And waited. Finally at 1 am (12 hours later) he was admitted into the hospital. Luckily, my dad was able to go to our house, get our dog, and some of our belongings so that we could have a “sleepover”.

It was really difficult to leave Dave at the hospital, but I had to stay at my parents’ house in order to take care of Harper. I was really blessed to have my mom there to help me take care of Harper’s feedings so I could get a little sleep.

Monday and Tuesday went by without much change. Dave was about to get tested for Meningitis, but the doctor just didn’t feel like we should. He really felt like it was a GI virus and it would pass with one more night. Well, the good news is that it did! It was really hard to have Dave in the hospital from Sunday-Wednesday, but I am glad that he got the care that he needed.

I feel like sometimes I take my days for granted. I have an awesome husband who loves, me my daughter, my doggie, and does so much to help and provide for our family. Dave had a moment of realization when he went 2 full days without seeing Harper. Now that he is home, he still isn’t able to hold her. DSCN4544

He was so happy to see her though. He hasn’t taken her screams, cries, or squeals for granted.

DSCN4545

He stays a safe distance, but wants to remember every moment he has with Harper.

DSCN4547

These experiences remind me that I need to take the time to appreciate these moments of my sweet baby discovering the world and to discover it myself just as she does.

Enjoy the little things.

Harper’s Nursery Reveal!

I know that my baby is nearly 2 months old, but I just finished her nursery! It is fun to look at each of the details come together. The nursery has ZERO natural light, which is no fun for pictures, but is really nice for sleeping, so as fabulous as the nursery looks in pictures, it is SO cute in person!

banner

The lanterns and banner above her crib. Make the Faux Doily Lantern and Vinyl Banner.

book bucket

Her bucket of books. Her daddy has a BIG book goal for them. Read about it on the “dad blog”.

canvas1canvas2

A faux wrapped canvas I had made on Walmart.com. It is a new product they have and I totally recommend it! I got this 16×20 canvas for $39! Dave found this quote, “I love you because there is nobody in the world like you” and wanted it in the nursery. I decided to make a collage of some of her newborn pictures and add that quote to it. The canvas sits above the glider chair Dave got for his birthday. It is the perfect addition to that wall.

closetcloset2

There is houndstooth print all over in the nursery. I love it! My sweet momma made the curtains when I was on “bed arrest”.

crib1crib2crib3crib4

Her darling crib bedding made by a sweet family friend. I am absolutely in love with it. There is a little Utah bear given to Harper by her daddy.

dresserdressertop

Her dresser that I glammed up with vinyl. Don’t worry, there is a tutorial coming! The top of her dresser complete with accessory jars that say Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice. Her jewelry box that I made here, a Scentsy warmer from her great grandma, a bear from her grandma, and a picture of she and her momma!

shelf

Her changing table area with the shadow box full of her hospital “treasures”.

shelf2

Shelf above the changing table with the temple print in the houndstooth frame I made, a picture of Dave and Harper, an owl Dave bought for her, and a girlie Barbie I love!

shelfart

On the wall next to her crib we have a small shelf for her monitor, canvases Dave made me for my birthday of the two of us, and a Mockingbird, because she is Harper. To learn more about her name…read here.

I am so pleased with the look of the nursery. It has influences from Dave and I and I know that it will continue to grow with Harper. I can’t believe it is finally complete!

Some girls just want to be casual

I have been so excited to put Harper in this “prom dress” since the day we found out we were having a baby girl.

prom1

I couldn’t wait to take pictures of her in this dress.

prom2

Then, the worst case scenario played out in front of me… This face.

prommad1

This face means, “My tummy hurts!”

prommad2

Needless to say, we had a wardrobe change.

casualmonday

I guess it is Casual Monday over here!

About Me: Girl Loves Glam
I am a wife, mom, cosmetologist, beauty junkie, fashion lover, published author, Sour Patch Kids addict, and loyal friend. I have a crazy toddler who keeps my hands busy and my heart full. I am a wife to a hard working husband who is an online middle school teacher, published author, blogger, Twitter ninja, and grad student. We live in the great (very cold) state of Idaho. I have an unhealthy addiction to geometric shapes and patterns, I am obsessed with Netflix, and love exercise (so I can eat more Sour Patch Kids).
I absolutely love having projects to work on. Whether it is a new hair tutorial, makeup look, or an entire room makeover, you will always find me with a project (or 12) on my plate… and all over my house. Jewelry Box Simple TUTORIAL!

This post contains some affiliate links.
Do you realize how difficult it is to find a jewelry box? I had no idea until I was in the market for one. I would finally find one, then I would look at the price tag, only to find that it was anywhere between $25-$70! I was not going to spend that on a jewelry box for Harper’s room! I was able to make one for about $8, but I had a few of the items laying around the house, if you don’t already have items around your house, it would still only cost you about $15.

What you’ll need…
jewelrybox2
*Jewelry centerpieces/brooches (mine were on clearance)
*OPTIONAL- vinyl and vinyl cutter
1. Spray paint your entire plastic container and drawers. This spray paint is very high quality and it doesn’t take much to cover all of your surfaces.
2. Glue your jewelry pieces to your drawer pulls.
You are done if you don’t want to add the vinyl details!
jewelrybox3
3. If you do want to add vinyl detail, find the design you want to put on your box, and cut it out.
jewelrybox4
4. Put your vinyl on the sides of your container.
