How to start running

If you have followed my story for a while, you may remember when I first started running about 2 years ago.

How to Start Running

I had NEVER, ever been a runner before. In fact, I would have full on asthma attacks when I would try to run. I just classified myself as a “non runner” and moved on. Then one day I just decided to try jogging a little. I would jog until I couldn’t jog anymore and then walk, then jog again. This would only be about 1-2 miles and I had to take lots of walking breaks. Eventually, I worked my way up to my very first 5k that happened on my 27th birthday. [Read more…]

Mother Knows Best!

It is kind of hard to believe that Mother’s Day is this weekend! This year is already flying at an impressive speed for me. One major reason for my time flying by has been the addition of Miss Zoey into our family. I am honored to have Hyland’s sponsoring this post.

It has been five years since I had a baby, so although I have done this all before, it was all pretty new to me again! Babies are a lot of work, but they bring so much joy into a home. When I would have late nights, early mornings, or just would struggle with the adjustment of having another child in our home, I always knew that I could rely on my mom.  [Read more…]

It’s Important to Be Nice: Be Kind Outfit

This post contains affiliate links.

I remember my mom teaching me from a very young age, just how important it was to be nice. I vividly remember my mom taking a friend home from a play date because I wasn’t treating my friend nicely. I remember standing in the garage, screaming in tears as I watched my mom drive away to take my friend home. I will never forget that moment, but it taught me a very valuable lesson that day. It is important to be nice!

I absolutely adore the “Be series” shirts that Cents of Style offers. They are full of positive affirmations, like this Be Kind shirt. For me, this shirt is the most relevant for the phase of life that I am in. If there is absolutely nothing else that I could teach my daughters, I want them to be taught that it is important to be kind. Being nice to people doesn’t mean that you get walked all over. Some of the most kind people I know are also some of the strongest people I know!  [Read more…]

Baby Routine and Scheduling Tips

When I had my first daughter, I was so sleep deprived that there are a lot of memories that seem completely dark and foggy in my brain. Those first few weeks were so hard! Thankfully my husband and I did a lot of research about baby routines and we learned enough that we were finally able to have a good sleeper who was on more of a schedule and it was beautiful! Now that I am starting over with a new baby, I decided to start with those schedules right from the beginning and it has already led to me getting more sleep than I did the first time around. I want to share a few of the baby routine and scheduling tips that I have learned in hopes that it will lead to a happier baby and more sleep for you!

Baby Routine and Scheduling Tips on www.girllovesglam.com

Let me start by saying that I am no parenting expert! What I say isn’t gospel truth by any means, but these are just a few tips that really have worked for me. I feel guilty keeping them to myself if they could help at least one mom out there get a little more peace (and sleep).  [Read more…]

Forgiving as a Little Child

When I would read scriptures that referred to becoming like a little child, it understood what they were saying, but they took on a whole new meaning as a parent.

Before becoming a mom, I had plans of being the mom who didn’t ever raise her voice and always had a level head when her children were acting out. I think those are probably the ideals that most of us get when we dream of what our future with children will be like.

Unfortunately, those ideals aren’t always a reality. Once I became a mom to a little girl who had opinions of her own, I realized that I am only human and can’t always be the ideal mom that I hoped of being. I make a lot of mistakes as a mom. [Read more…]

Isn’t it crazy to look back at the end of the year and think about all of the things that have happened in that calendar year? This year has been a roller coaster of emotions, but I am really grateful for where I am today and where the many trials have brought me and have taught me along the way.

Pink Scalloped Dresser Makeover

We are in full blown nesting mode at our house, trying to get ready for baby number two. Part of our plan to make room for baby was to move the queen sized bed in the guest bedroom into Harper’s room so that the guest bedroom could become baby’s room. The guests will still get to sleep in the queen bed when they come to visit and Harper will sleep on the air mattress. It took a little convincing but she finally got excited about getting a big bed. Part of getting her excited was telling her that we could give her room a little makeover at the same time. We pretty much just decorated her room since we have only been in this house for a year, but there were a few other things we could do to make her feel like this was a special experience for her and she wasn’t just getting kicked out of her little bed. One of the things that we decided to do was refinish her dresser. I LOVE how it turned out!

Our 2016 Christmas Cards

As much as technology has taken over all of our lives, I really appreciate getting traditional mail. I love the act of walking out to the mailbox, pulling out envelopes and opening them up to see what was sent! Everyone knows that this is even better during the holiday season! Seeing family Christmas cards is one of my favorite parts about this season! We have ordered our holiday cards from Shutterfly for the past 7 years! Before we even had kids, I wanted to make it a point to send out cards because I knew that our loved ones would appreciate the thought that went into them.

It is pretty amazing to see how many different styles of holiday cards that Shutterfly has created over the years. There are SO many options now! I usually try a different style each year. This year, we tried out the glitter holiday cards and they are awesome! The sparkle doesn’t rub off and they just make the card look a little more festive!

Helping Children Live Bold Lives

I’m sharing #LISTERINE in my life as part of a LISTERINE® sponsored series for Socialstars™

I still remember this day like it was yesterday. Maybe it is because my four year old won’t let me forget it. It was a day that happened almost two years ago when we went to one of our favorite lunch spots. She was playing with a friend in the play area when both she and the friend came out crying. There was a bully in the playground! I remember thinking that this was the first bully situation I could think of her experiencing and I wanted to help her get through it.

I will tell you now, this was a tough one! The bully was just plain mean! He was pushing kids down and spitting in their faces, screaming in kids faces, and basically just trying to make every other kid cry. His mom came in and told him to stop, but that did absolutely nothing. I told my daughter to go in with her friend and they could play together. If “Mean Carter” came and tried to bother them, they could stand up to him together. Well, that plan failed just as soon as both little girls came out of the playground with tears streaming down their faces.

In that moment, I realized that this was probably a great way for my daughter to be introduced to a bully. Not all bully situations end like they do on television shows. Everyone doesn’t end up being friends in the end and we definitely can’t control other people’s actions. This situation only got worse when the mother of this child tried to get involved with some of the other parents who were trying to help their kids stand up to her son. In the end, we chose to leave and so did many of the other families.

Why do I share this story with you? Because I want to share how we have continued to build on that experience to help give our daughter the confidence she needs to be bold and stand up for herself in situations that she is going to be faced with in her life.
